I cannot believe that some folks do not think this building being constructed is an eyesore. Out of nowhere this multiple story office building is there, it offers absolutely nothing in the way of OLD TOWN feel as was proposed. If they made it look like an early 1700 or 1800's type of building or something like that there would not be an issue. Just deep down inside I feel something is not right here, and you all know it too.

I'm no fan of Phil ... but ... Have you driven through Chelmsford Center in the past 40 years? St Mary's is simply a pile of bricks. The rest of the old emerson farm is now a dumpy strip mall office park. That old garage next to the old town hall (has dominos in it, etc ) that was built the 1920's is a real eye sore. Have you ever glanced at the building that houses Phil's hang out (jessie's place)? There are so many buildings in the town that should have been leveled decades ago that its not funny. I mean the center piece of the town is a mobil gas station.... honestly, great effort was made to maintain the character of the town center when the ginger ale plant was raised to make the new plaza look like the factory. Were they kidding? Historical Commission? What's historical about an old brick garage or factory? Ok, historical yes ... quaint new england village ... NO
And now we have this new 'barn-like' office building. I've lived in new england for 47 years. I've never seen a 16,000 square foot barn like structure anywhere.
And then here's the biggest joke of all. Phil's barn was build 25 years too late. That plot of land should have been developed, not made into yet another park .. across the street from the common? Down the road from bartlet? Bet 80% or more of the residents of the town of chelmsford don't even know where bartlet park is... I've never seen anyone in that park. There are no town activities held there ... Maybe the town should sell it and put up another gas station or office building. PR on the land? Who cares, we all know who to call so we can get around that....
Everyone involved in this looks bad. The BOS for not enforcing the PR, the 1978 BOS for putting the PR on the deed in the first place and of course our benefactor Phil who found a 'loophole' and took advantage of it thus proving once and for all that they're all in it for themselves.
I can't figure out what mcclure thinks he's doing, but the depositions are going to be great reading. It'll give us all an insight into what complete fools we've elected and employed over the years ... The fools that have squandered what the sires have won.
What you're seeing here are a lot of town residents that are fed up with all of these people and clearly don't trust them anymore. Unfortunately, none of this is new, its been going on for generations and this certainly won't be the end of it.

As it has been said numerous times, if it wiggles like a "snake", and slithers like a "snake", and able to regenerate a new coat each year, then it must be a "snake", aka Paul Cohen. Why is everyone surprised??? when reading the deposisition of the bank represenative.

I very much agree with your assessment of Chelmsford Center. Except for a few choice places near the church, all the quaint New England charm in the center was developed away by the sires who wanted to make a buck. The barn-like structure is an extension of that.(not that I like it any way). The PR was written badly - convoluted, ambiguous legalese for no real purpose. It's a shame the Emerson family's intent was thrown away at their (and their intended beneficiaries - us) ultimate disadvantage. They're the one's who should have profited if the land was going to be developed.
Honestly, I'm not really sure what the sires actually won for the Town. Certainly a great deal for themselves. But the "children" get to deal with the mess afterwards. Seems like a common theme these days.
I'm really curious how the barn-like structure meets the Inspector's approval. I guess I need to read the various and sundry multitudes of variances and special permits to see why.
The deposition is interesting reading in a sense. But I'm not finding it to meet the level of excitement that RVL et al find it. Although, I don't find a 16ksqft to be "a small building".

newsflash!! scheduled depositions of Board of Selectmen and Planning Board members have town officials scurrying like rats from a sinking ship!! Documents confirming Phil and Paul knew about desire to purchase by other town officials are now disappearing from the town's website......
this drastically changes previously posted odds to the following:
Phil throws Paul under bus...... 5-1
Paul throws Phil under bus.......3-1
Dixon throws himself under bus... even
Clare Jeannotte cries during depo..1-10
Clare cries THEN throws Paul and Phil under the bus..........1-5
Zaharoolis tells McLure to "shut up and sit down" during depo..........2-1
