The fight for freedom
#1 Apr 22, 2008
Indeed Bob, history is worth remembering. My guess is that those brave insurgents that fought the mightiest military of their time with guerilla tactics would not recognize the nanny state we live in today. I think of liberty quite often and how government encroachments on it increase every year.
A parallel that I think of when I hear the story of our "minutemen" is what the Iraqi men must be thinking when our military occupies their country. I find it hard to believe that Iraqis don't have the same type of patriotism that our founders had. I think about how I would react if Chinese or Israeli tanks were rumbling up and down 495 trying to force there way of living on us. I think how would I react if Russians were dropping 500 lb bombs in my neighborhood to "protect me from terrorists". Would freedom loving Americans take up arms against them or would they allow the occupiers to rule their lives?
In my heart I know there are still Americans that would band together and fight for freedom. And I hope that fellow Americans will realize this the next time our elected leaders want to go on another nation building expedition.
Freedom is popular and it knows no race, creed or religion. My guess is, one day Iraqis will be celebrating their Patriots day.
