My house is two blocks away from mine and my daughter goes to school with the woman's children. I got the call from the school about it and ended up taking my daughter out of school because she was upset. The school talked to my daughter and wants her to keep the info that the kids are saying a secret. We teach our kids not to keep secrets so how are they suppose to know the difference in elementry school. I think how the school is handling this is wrong. My daughter said that a woman with the police dept rode on her bus to school. I want to thank the Raytown Police dept. for thinking of the kids first.

The Raytown police department will tell everyone to keep quiet about everything as it will interfere with their investigation. I assure you they paid a visit to the school and are probably on the bus to insure their gag order.

The school has asked the children who were on the bus not to talk about it at school because not all of the children know what has happened. They are giving the parents a chance to step up and be parents and discuss this with their own children. It is easy for all of us to complain about the school systems in the Metro. This time they are making the parents become involved in raising their children. This is a concept that may be new to many of you. The school system can only do so much in raising your children for you.

a raytown school bus employee had told me that the womans kids, busdriver and the kids on the bus had witnessed the woman being shot. i think this has to be one of the worse things that any child should have to witness. i hope they find the killer & that he rots in hell. what ever the matter was, noone should ever feel they have the right to kill another person. i feel horrible for those kids...

This is a nice neighborhood in Raytown, but as we all know, Raytown isn't the place it used to be 30 years ago. If I had children, I would not live in Raytown....the school district isn't as good as it used to be and the city just isn't safe.

Well, I lost one of my best friends to an unknown murderer at 60th and Hunter in December so I am a bit biased but I say Raytown is approaching ghetto status quickly. With Real Estate prices dropping it won't be long before it resembles Ruskin Heights. Get out while you can. I suggest Belton or somewhere as far away from the bus route as possible.

for all of u to talk about how bad Raytown is look around, it does not matter where u live crime is everywhere. Just because a city might have a gag order on the law enforcement and news does not travel as fast in some areas there is crime in KS, Belton, Lee Summit, u name it. As far as the school system part of that is the Gov. with budget cuts everywhere what do u expect? I have 2 girls in this district and my father works for the district and both of my girls are 4.o students. It starts at home take care of ur own damn kids and stop blaming our schools. All property values r going down everywhere. As far as the shooting, it is so sad and I feel for the family and everyone who did whitness it, my daughter does go to the same school and the police r the ones not wanting anyone to talk for it is an investigation and who wants ur child to have to repeat what happened. Wake up people!!

I live in Raytown and my kids go to the same school. I believe that Raytown is a great place to live. Unfortunately, every community has incidents like this, the news just chooses which to report. I think the school district handled the situation appropriately. This is not something that needs to be discussed with young children. If they witnessed it, it is the parent's responsibility to help them deal with it. Encouraging the students not to discuss the tragedy with other students is the best course of action. Our district is strong and in a time when state funding is dropping horendously, Raytown is doing much better than a lot of neighboring districts.

In the end, let's remember that 2 children have lost their mother. Their lives will never be the same. They are in my prayers

There are worse places to live, KCK, KCMO, Independence etc... I agree there is crime everywhere. The crime rate in Raytown is trending up though, you can't ignore that fact. Even worse, violent crimes are going up. I attribute this in part to the fact places like KCK and KCMO are getting so bad, the residents are moving to places like Raytown where housing is relatively affordable. Your point about it starting at home is right on.

I was raised in South Kansas City and spent a better part of my years as a teen running around with friends that grew up in Raytown and I am very familiar with the area. It used to be a great area and still has some great neighborhoods.

Beware of the neighborhoods with the lower priced homes and stay away from the bus route.

As for the police keeping things to themselves on the investgation, that is SOP and rightfully so.

Congrats on your kids and good luck in the hood.

The proper form is "are" not "r", "you" not "u", "two" not "2" and I have no idea what 4.o means. You're statement that it starts at home needs to be in place here or your children will never learn to spell correctly.

I am a teacher in Raytown and I must say the district has had a lot of tragedies the past few years. Though I do not always agree with the way these situations are handled, I do know that the teachers in this district have the students best interests at heart. I am proud to be a Raytown teacher and I know the kids are in good hands while at school. Kids being told to keep information secret does sound bad, but it also protects them as well as other kids.

Exactly! I guess this is modern day shorthand on the telephone. Which we are not on!

This is a very sad situation because the person killed has children. However for all the people that think Raytown is exempt from crime????? No where or anyone is exempt but I would encourage that you know your neighbors because this lady here lived a life of crime and nobody deserves to pay with their life but karma is something that will always come back. So when you move out the ghetto but still do ghetto mess it will come to find you. Sad but so true.
