If anyone is planning on learning the sport of boxing, DO NOT even consider training at the Taunton Boxing Club. The trainers there are no more qualified to teach boxing than a pet monkey. They are just fronting that they are all about the kids. They put the kids down and make them feel bad about themselves. They shouldn't even be able to train any child in the sport of boxing. A sport that can potentially be dangerous should be taught by people who know a little about the sport. Someone who has experienced the ring themselves. U.S.A Boxing only requires you to take a test with basic questions, anyone could answer, to become a boxing coach. As long as you pass a Cory check and pay the $50 coaches license fee your in. Charles "Chick" Rose is the Head Clinition for U.S.A Boxing, he is the person in charge of giving the test. He actually gives the answers to the "test takers" that apply for a coaching license through his gym. this may be hard for some to believe, but it is the truth. Investigate, and you will too yourself believe. Nobody has to answer any questions about prior boxing experience, you'd never know weather or not that person applying to coach your child, in a potentially dangerous sport, had himself had ANY boxing experience!!! The main trainer at the Taunton Boxing Club is Jimmy Carey. His only experience is the fact that his grandfather was a boxer. If you ask him, he'll tell you that is his ONLY experience. And the fact that he himself purchased a few learning DVD's. He should not be training kids something he has no idea about. So, DO NOT send your child to the Taunton Boxing Club!! They will get hurt. They have had kids spa ( a "practice" boxing match) that do not even have a license. I just wanted people to know, If you are interested in boxing training for you kids, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!

I know very little about boxing, but I do know that the children involved in boxing with Chick are taken very good care of. These kids have strict guidelines they have to follow in order to continue boxing. They have to have good grades ( I believe they have to show their report cards) they can not get into trouble at school or out of school. I have never heard of Chick or any other people in there talking trash to the kids. Chick has helped coached one young man that I know of to win the junior olympics and a belt. My guess is, your kid couldn't hack it and got beat up. That's not the fault of the coaches or trainers.

I am afraid you have been terribly misinformed. Chick Rose is a man of the highest caliber. When I stepped into the Taunton Boxing Club I didn’t know a speed bag from my elbow. A few years later I made the decision to move out of state for school. My coach there thought it would be a good idea for us to spar, just to see where my skills were, not 2 minutes into the first round I gave him a bloody nose. He later told me that there was no one in the surrounding area that could beat me in my weight class. From that point on, I would only spar with the best in the gym, including professional boxers.

A few months later I had my first fight under my new coach. The guy was boxing in the Navy and was about 4 years older than me with a lot more fights. I took him out easy with only a minor scratch over my eye to show for it. Eventually, boxing, school, and work got to be too much so I had to quit boxing to focus more on my studies.

I took the level 1 coaching exam during my time at the TBC and got the highest grade on the test, not because I was given any answers but because I was taught by one of the best. Furthermore, no kid was ever put down inside that gym! During my time there we all supported each other and Chick would take every opportunity he had to talk to us about leadership and success.

I learned everything I know about boxing at the Taunton Boxing Club, but more importantly, I learned a whole lot about life. I would recommend the TBC to anyone who is thinking about boxing for themselves or their kids, unless of course they are afraid of getting hurt, in which case might I suggest water polo or badminton?

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Aries

Christmas Eve finds you happy and eager to get the most out of the day. You're in a rather sentimental mood, so if you've got time you'll relish the chance to watch a favourite film, especially if it means you've got to get out the hankies. A friend's kindness or sensitivity will delight you - and make you wonder how you can reciprocate.
