If we had a ban on assault weapons this would not have happened.
If nothing else, can't we pass a law to make it illegal to shot school children who are under the age of twelve with rifles that hold more then 10 rounds of ammunition.

I am not calling for a ban on firearms. What I am calling for is a law that would severely punish anybody who did not reasonable secure his firearms from getting into the hands of children.

Even if we banned all guns we'd still have insane politicians slowly strangling us.

Unfortunately. you are correct and the really sad part of it is that the problem is bi-partisan.

It wasn't a rifle that killed the child - next time read more than the headline.

So, with this new law it would be OK to shoot anyone over 12 with a six shooter???
Looks like you didn't think this one through.......

All the more reason to ban assault rifles. And if there had been a 'five day waiting period' on chairs...that little boy wouldn't have found the gun there.(Next time read more into what I'm saying.)

Of course I didn't think it through...I'm Joe Biden.
Let's face it, making murder illegal hasn't stopped people from killing people. That's why it is IMPORTANT that we continually pass more gun laws until we find the ONE that works. Criminals will eventually find a law that they like.

I would like to know how the child even get hold of the weapon in the first place. In a home with children, firearms should always be properly secured and those with a license to carry should know better than to bring guns into a home where children are present. There ought to be laws holding anybody whose failure to secure one's firearms from children criminally liable. Too many people seemingly love their guns more than their own children when they fail to keep firearms properly secured.

I would be willing to bet that someone in this housse who had the gun, wasnt supposed to have it. In that case no amount of laws would have kept this from happening.

I agree.
But in the US, one does not need a permit to own a gun do they?
In the US we are citizens also, in countries that dont allow anyone to have guns the citizens are "subjects".

Parents should be charged when things like this happen. How stupid to leave any kind of a gun out where anyone can get a hold of it.
We have laws here in Canada, that all firearms must be locked away, and ammunition locked in seperate place.
GUN CONTROL WORKS.
In 1969, there was a gun shooting at primary school in Scotland, 16 children were killed 5-6, along with a teacher. The following year the UK banned the private ownership of all cartridge ammunition handguns, regardless of caliber. There have been no school shootings since.
Makes you wonder.
You don't seem to know history very well. There was 17 killed in an elementary school in Dunblane Scotland in 1996 http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_... in 1987 there was 16 killed and 15 wounded in Hungerford in the UK http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10216955 and in 2010 12 people were killed in Cumbria, UK http://merovee.wordpress.com/2010/06/02/mass-... As for Canada, the Montreal massacre of 1989 killed 14 at École Polytechnique (a college) http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/... in 2012 in toronto, 2 were killed and 23 wounded http://ca.news.yahoo.com/video/canews-2242492...
