Ok, so this past Tuesday, May 5th 2009, the day after my surgery in Tifton, I'm sitting at home with my boys. Their running around playing, and my 5 year old starts screaming "I'm bleeding I'm bleeding". I asked him where. and he opens his mouth. I find blood pouring our. So as calmly as any mother could, I ask what happened. He somehow managed to jab himself in the back of the mouth (where your top & bottom gum connect in the middle) with a stake that goes in the ground to hold up a volley ball net. Panic. 7 miles from Nashville er beats driving nearly 30 + to Tifton Er. I didn't know the dept of the injury and was afraid the would start swelling in his throat. So Nashville is where we went. The on duty Doctor and his male nurse (yes I have names) shined a flash light in his mouth. looked at me and said "he needs a E.N.T.(ear nose & throat) specialist. You should take him to Tifton or Valdosta. Your son possibly has a punctured ear drum or a punctured artery." He then tells me "We're going to pretend you were never here." He walks to the registration desk, the young lady behind the desk looks up at the doc, and the doc says "that paper she signed here at registration, make it disappear. She was never here." O.M.G.! So still dazed and confused about whats going I hall butt to Tifton. Praying to God my son doesn't bleed to death internally from the punctured artery he may have. The Tifton E.R. put my mind at ease. Requesting that I take him to his regular physician pediatrician. I did first thing the following morning. They requested I see a E.N.T.. Well that same day, we seen the E.N.T. He told me, "As crazy as this may sound, if this puncture wound would have been anymore 2 the left, right, up, or down, your son WOULD HAVE hit an culinary artery." So--my point of this is. Nashville ER should have ran more test. Seen that my son was actually stable. Then sent me on my way. My son could have died on the way to Tifton. I know your probably wondering why I didn't do more. But understand that I was in shock with everything going on. And I like 90% of all other humans do what the Doctors request. The "bleeding internally" actually had settled in yet.
What should I do about this ?

The ER in Nashville is not capable of doing jack crap! They can't even help you if you have a broken bone much less a heart attack!

Nashville hospital is the last place i would take anyone or anything to in order to see a dr. In Fitzgerald, Dorminy is a great hospital....it's not as far as Tifton, and the staff is fabulous....
So sorry to hear that you had to learn the hard way...Thank God your baby is okay....

I have lived in Berrien Co. 40 years. I, and other family memebers, have had occasion to be admitted to BCH, we have received the best of care, and feel that our doctors are some of the best. We have been courteously treated, and cared for with kindness and compassion. My husband and I are in our seventies and can say have only good things to reportabout BCH. Although we are of Medicare age now, we have in past years had insurance and paid our bills. Does it occur to BooHooMommy that had the E.R. visit been documented that she would have had a large bill to pay. Or is she like so many today that we taxpayers pay her bills by way of Medicaid or Peachcare. It seems to me that this namesless doctor did her a big favour. There is more to this story than is being told. Folks out there who have had good experiences with BCH should deluge this site, we have excellent nurses and doctors. whom I'm sure feel insulted by this cry baby mom. Grow up little lady, you were not turned away with a child in danger and you know it. Our hospitl is not SGMC, but we need this asset to Berrien County and the likes of you do a whole lot of damage to our community. You owe BCH a big apology.

Maggie,
Its odd that you make a remark about taxpayers paying someones bills when you yourself are having us pay your bills. Especially when you have no idea how this was being paid.
Regardless of the payment method the facts remain the same; This dr made the remark that this was a possibly life threatening injury and sent them on their way.
For you to make remarks toward my daughter, whom you do not know, and about a situation that you have no knowledge of only shows your ignorance and perhaps your personality.

After making a comment or diagnosis that their may be a punctured artery or eardrum the dr, if unable to care for him properly, should have, at the very least, stabilized the patient and ordered an ambulance to transport to a hospital that was able to properly care for the wound.

I was at the Tifton Hospital when they arrived and I heard the staff make remarks on their pure shock that this child was sent by personal vehicle to another hospital.

So Granny Maggie, you see, your the one who owes an apology. And please don't insult my daughter again just to make yourself feel good about yourself.

Have a good day.

Why in the hell should I appoligize for being rejected from the Berrien County Hospital. How would losing my son due to their ignorance doing me a big favor ??
It doesnt matter what type of insurance I have, that was no reason to reject my 5 year old son from the hospital.
My baby could have died!!!!All I'm concerned about was the well being of my baby. I didn't add this comment to be put down by anyone like you, I am simply sharing my experience with that Hospital.
I have no reason to lie about what happened, my parents taught me better that that. They also taught me to respect my elders. But the most important thing they taught me was to not be pushed around by ignorance of people like you.
O, and they also taught me to say thank you , so thanks for helping my kids stay on peachcare :) I great appreciate that. Because without people like you, my kids would not be medically covered. My spouse and I both work, hard, but some ends are hard to meet. But at least our children are medically covered. Thank YOU :)

DearConcerned Mother-of little boy who was in need of professional medical treatment. I lived in Nashville Ga. For one year. My husband and I both have been to that E.R. First of all what does the crack about method of payment got to do with the poor child. Looking to adult's for help. That is so hateful. One thing I learned about the people of Nashville, Ga. There are two team's. You are either on the side of the connected or your on your own. Everyone want's to jump bad on someone bringing up a negative even if it's the truth. If someone doesn't like what you say. Then they get all there friends involved and try to do a character assasination on the offending party. You did the right thing by bringing up the issue about your child. Don't ever feel bad. The same people who say the hateful things about the baby. I would venture to guess go to some local church and consider themself's fine upstanding citizen's. But what would Jesus say? My guess is the reason the hospital wanted get rid of the evidence of the child being seen is because they are worried about a lawsuit should the child die. And they were anywhere involved in the child's care. I beleive you percent. Best wishes to your precious child. I don't live there anymore so I don't have to put their underhanded way's. Change only happen's when people speak up. Children of Nashville deserve better than that. Regardless of their station in life or ability to pay or not pay.

I had an experience with Nashville's fine or excellent doctors and nurses. I went there having a stroke which was documented as a problem being drunk. I did not drink and still don't, but one of those excellent nurses accused me of it. The doctor diagnosed it as an undetermined cause. I guess his witchcraft had never seen such. Well, the fine citizens paid that bill and ate 2 days in the hospital and ate several tests and x-rays, which those fine doctors can't read and those fine nurses can't help determine. So SUE! So Maggie wakey wakey.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Libra

Someone is shooting from the hip today, making them irascible and all too liable to fly off the handle. Be very wary about provoking them into further outbursts, particularly where the vexed topics of money and sex are concerned. If you're trying to sort out a financial problem you will also be prone to losing your rag and banging your fist on the table. But will that help?
