What everyone of you don't realize is the company (constellium) don't care about you or anyone else but themselves. Don't you think that if they really wanted to run the plant that they had a work force already in place. I'm talking about the scabs that crossed the first time in the 90's. They don't want anything to do with them now and the few that tried to stay in the company made them leave. Where was the loalaty there ? Now the past scabs as we used to call them have become our brothers on the picket line fighting for the same things we were fighting for back then. We won the last fight and we will win this one. Instead of everyone telling us about what we should give up because that is the way it is. You should be saying we want what they are fighting for and go after it. This is America not another third world country.

If they are the lowest paid, it would be because of the least effort possible. I have worked at Alcan/Constellium on several occasions. I have never seen anything like it. I have actually witnessed 15 people watching 2 people work. If they did not have their lame, antiquated union, they would not be the lowest paid. Maybe if they would bust their asses, instead of having the union mindset of "That's not my job", they would be paid a premium. All Unions do this day and age is protect the lazy. I was in the United Steelworkers for 5 years, and am not merely talking out my ass like the majority of these posts. You people striking are not concerned about anyone, but yourselves. You are affecting other peoples jobs, too. Get back to work, and stop relying on Union reps who do not give a hoot about your welfare. And when you get back to work, stop the damn "Companies just out to screw me" attitude, and do your job well. Have some pride being an American.

I'm on strike not by choice, and wish I were back at my job. You speak the truth and I agree 100% with you. If the workers (guessing 80%) that claim that they work so hard and are taken advantage of by the company spent as much time working and taking pride in a hard days work as they do trying to get out of work, sleeping, or bitching.....then maybe the atmosphere would be different there. Times have changed- nobody wants to listen to the bitching and moaning anymore of the once almighty unions.

Let us assume a person with a handle named "Psycho" actually knows what they were talking about. If people were stupid enough to attack anyone for needing/wanting work which is being refused, they need imprisoned. I think the pollutants from Dupont has effected the judgement of the populations majority in that area. Go Teflon!

You are on strike by choice. If you owe your little boy or little girl money (because it's really NOT for your ex), then be a REAL man and go back to work.

They had a workforce in place. Remember, it was you and your "brothers". You chose to not go to work, and make no compromise. You have the schizophrenic mentality that people are just out to get you. These people in your case are "The Company". Those horrible people in "The Company" that get contracts in there, and make sure you are paid. You and your cronies probably think that new plate stretcher will give you an extra bargaining chip. The same people that brought it in, and set it up, can tear it down and relocate to an area that has people willing to work. Oh, and you are right, this is America, and is why you are paid a wage to support you family, and needs. Same reason why you have insurance and a 401k. There is nothing American about walking out of your job, hence hurting you, your community, and your family because you are not getting you way. Time to be big boys and girls, and go do your job. And when you finally do decide to go back to work, do the best you can do. Stop doing the minimum because you think anything extra just gos to the "greedy company" that provides your job. UNIONS CATER TO MEDIOCRITY. Good Luck.

If you do not get what I am saying, call your local Elementary School, and have any random First Grader read and explain to you what I meant. Okay, whatever but this company make's a lot of money!! They should have enough to pay for the insurance. But the "salary" workers are having a tough time running the place as of what I heard a little bit ago. I heard one of them lost a couple of fingers. They don't know exactly what to do down there because they weren't trained.
The Company does not make near as much as you want to believe. This is the typical mindset of your average Union employee. The overhead at Constellium is off the charts. The majority of Union workers do little to nothing. They have purposely sabotaged the older plate stretcher in the past in order to shut it down. I suppose that is just an attack on that evil company who provides you a job. Bums like you will find out just how much money they make when they have to shut down and move. But hey, there is always Taco Bell in downtown Ravenswood you can go work at. How are the benefits there?

Little girl - if you were my daughter I would be telling you to stay off Topix!!! I said I would not post But you need to stop on here. The so called Salary workers are not having a tough time running the place!! And yes they are trained on the equipment, they do tell the hourly workers what the jobs are for the shifts so they need to understand and know the equipment. There are NO replacement workers there. There are kitchen cooks that cook two meals a day. There are trailers there for the Salary to sleep in and wash clothes, and a kitchen. The Salary may come and go. They are not afraid to cross the lines. Some chose to stay because of the drive and hours they are working at this time. They are getting done what they need to do with out problems. So sorry to disappoint some of you!

You are mistaken if you think the company will give in to the union demands for 100% company paid insurance. They have made it a top priority to cut health care costs. Look at what salary has now it is not good, no worse than most mills but their health care was cut this year. The company has deeper pockets than the union workers and can hold out much longer. The union can only fail, never ever will they win. The company will not conceded to the unions demands. You got to know when to hold then and know when to fold them. Please fold them before it is to late.

It is sad that a motion, that the union chair when it was given should have called out of order, is stoping the members from voting. This is injustice and mob rule, we have rules and the usw5668 did not follow them. Please refer to Roberts Rules Of Order and what can be allowed during a special meeting. All union meetings are goverened by these rules and during a special meeting only items listed on the agenda may be put on the floor. The items for the meeting when this occured were to inform on the contract offered and a strike vote, so all other motions were out of order and that motion should be removed per Art. 9 rule 47

I have a couple fam members on the inside, and the guy you are referencing lost the tip of one finger. And, both my salary family members started union, worked union for 10+ yrs before becoming salary. If they aren't trained, then nobody down there is trained.

Sorry....didn't realize until after I posted this originally came from the teenager. Everyone else is right, topix is no place for you. You should be hanging with friends, and getting ready for school to start if it hasn't already. I was a teen when my dad and uncles were locked out. Don't get caught up in the ugly hatred that is spewed on here and around town. You are too young to become cynical, jaded and entitled. Go enjoy what's left of your summer.

For all you union members thinking you will get unemployment checks think again I know a few that have already tried and were denied. I hope randy moore will still say he's proud of you when you start loosing everything that's really something to be proud of. Just remember the company can last longer than most of you. How can randy Randy Moore stand up there at the hall and say how proud he is of you for giving up your jobs. Just remember he's still got his job & paycheck. How many of the members really know what's really going on the union won't tell you the truth if even half is true about what they are wanting then this union is history no job no insurance or unemployment just remember Randy Moore is still proud of you!!!!!!

One day longer could be the last day you live! Is that how you want to live? Putting Union ahead of your wife, family, children??? SAD

The Union did NOT win during the lockout, oh how easily you forget! They went back to a contract that was LESS than they turned down at midnite! They lost SS benefits, never to be recouped, etc. That was NOT a win!

Go ahead, strike and be proud but when you beat your chest when your children become hungry, no one will be proud that you cannot feed your family! A strike gains you nothing, watch and see!

Better find a job before there are none to be had!

I wish all the hardcore knuckleheads and the foolish sheep that follow them wake up soon so the rest of us can go back to work without fear of damaged vehicles, flat tires or harassed families. We all need paychecks- our families suffer, the local businesses suffer, and our schools will suffer.

Pretty crappie if you ask me. A man is trying to support his family, goes back to work, and the union sends out mass text message telling everyone his name. That should be between the union who received the paperwork and the employee..not the general membership.
