I don't care what seniority they have, if your job is "copper loader," you should probably consider filling out a FAFSA for the next semester at WVUP. Also, if you're the human resources specialist that hired these people, you might want to upload your resume to a few employment sites. I still say the easiest way to select people for the layoffs would be to give a 3rd grade reading comprehension test. Forget the bell curve, just axe the first 132 that take the zero.

Way more likely to hire than to lay off, at least at the current capacity. Management has promised volume that is beyond the capability of not only the personnel, but the equipment also. Good situation to be in but one has to wonder when it will all backfire.

Because the salary did their work during the strike they now know how many people they actually need....so, even though volume expectations are greater, the knowledge of how many are needed is great. They dug their own grave - Layoff....

See, that's the problem with unions, the individual is kicked to the curb and can't shine and be recognized for a good day's work. It's too bad because the folks who do all the work, or at least most of it, can't be recognized or financially rewarded for it. Locked into that union contract.

Seniority - it has its advantages and disadvantages, but I still think the emphasis should be placed on each employee's job performance.

Light bar - that had me in tears. Spittoon, Bumper stickers (all of them are just right) and Grievance Procedure - perfect. You literally described 692 of the 712 pick-em-up trucks parked at the plant right now. Where can I get a copy of that? Link to a website? If you made it up yourself, you deserve some type of public rcognition.

Constellium Plans To Challenge Unemployment Compensation Benefits

Constellium plans to challenge a ruling that awarded unemployment compensation benefits to workers who went on strike at its Ravenswood aluminum plant earlier this year.

Constellium spokeswoman Laura Prisc told the Charleston Daily Mail that the company will appeal last week's decision by the state Labor Dispute Tribunal. The appeal will go to the Board of Review.

The three-member tribunal said the workers could receive the benefits because there wasn't a work stoppage at the plant during the strike.

The strike began Aug. 5 and ended the following month when United Steelworkers Local 5668 members ratified a five-year contract.

A state government spokeswoman says 609 workers applied for unemployment compensation benefits. The maximum weekly benefit is $424.

They'll get to keep their benefits. And they should. Those appeals almost never go the employers' way, and they shouldn't. But why does it matter? It certainly won't change the employees' hilarious inability to see the obvious and inevitable. They refuse to accept some facts. Uneducated and unskilled workers are being phased out in this country. They think their pensions and company-funded retirement plans are guaranteed. They think Constellium is well-positioned in the marketplace. They think Century will reopen and Constellium won't close. They think the union hasn't destroyed our economy for an entire generation. They don't understant the Affordable Care Act, and have no clue how it will impact their healthcare costs. And worst of all, if you said they need to invest in a Roth-IRA, they would say that Roth is a hippy and they already paid their taxes to the IRA.

Seeking to hire mechanical engrs, electricians, automated systems shift tech, automated systems engrs, millwright, and safety specialists.

Good news for R'wood (unless they are going to replace people.)
