It's always been that way with Mick. I remember Brett Rector was QB one year when everyone else on the team could throw farther and more accurately than him. There is a trade off though. Rector wouldn't have been decent in High School had Mick not forced the issue in Middle School. He lost a lot of games so that Sturm could win a couple. You tell me which was more honorable. I know a few guys that wanted to give QB a shot and we never got to see whether they were any good. Practice meant nothing. He made his roster based on last names. We actually had 3 guys walk off the field at the end of a game once.

And that's a whole new can of worms. Coaches that don't care about anything but letting their kid play. I hate that!

The coaches in high school who are smart have the kids in middle school running the same plays as the varsity so they have the plays mastered. This is done in Wayne, Bluefield, Poca, Pt Pleasant and many other schools and look at those teams success in the last decade. The former coaches wanted nothing to do with the middle school or the midget league that's why no one who has come up through the midget league and middle school have never known the fundamentals of football because it wasn't being taught at those levels. Eric Hupp is the best middle school coach we have had in years except for Mick. You all are gonna be surprised at how Mick does with the team this year. He is running the show and that is the way it should be. No more assistant coaches running the team in the ground anymore.

Wow sounds like some parents are upset their kids aren't super stars. It's one thing to give hell to coaches, but you are really sad people to pick on kids.

Wow sounds like someone is upset that their kids not a star. As for how things are done and what kid is starting where, I recall seeing that Dawson kid leaving every agility, every session to learn the system when I pick-up my kid. Can you say the same for yours, or wait they were an all star at little league??? As for the Hupp kid not making all-stars, I believe she was asked to play travel ball, playing against better competition. One of 2 from the middle school team to play the higher level. How do I know? I work for the company that sponsed her to play. Grow up and let the high school and middle school coaches do their job, quit living your sports career through your kids.

FYI the coaches do go up and work with the midget league and show them the fundamentals of football. They did just a couple weeks ago, and have done it for years. As far as working with the middle school, the middle school has coaches to do that job. The high school coaches can not coach the midget, middle school, and high school teams. And to my knowledge the high school coach does not tell the middle school coach what plays to run. Dick Sturm would have never told a coach of another team what to do. If that coach would have come to him and asked his opinion on certain plays he may have discussed it within him. The reason these kids come up not knowing the fundamentals of football is because of the dads that coach midget league, or sit at home and run their mouths and have never played football a day in their lives, and do not know what the hell they are talking about. Sure it's nice of you to volunteer your time to coach the kids, but if you don't know what you are doing then you should either find someone else to do the job, or ask someone who knows. Stop blaming the high school coaches for everything!! Those guys work hard. I would like to see all of you that get on here and run your mouths do what they do.

I think that you people give Mick too much credit sometimes. He's a decent guy and a legend as a basketball coach for Ravenswood, but that has nothing to do with football. He's not proven in football and having actually played for him, I don't think he was the right choice. I saw first hand that he plays money/popularity over talent, pays no attention to the actual physical strength of his players enough to know which positions or if they should play, and knows nothing about how to adjust his game plan to fit the atmosphere of each individual game. His offense is entirely too simple and his defense lacks intensity. I hope he proves me wrong, but I suppose we'll see.
