Actually, South Plaza is not in "the hood." It's the people from "the hood" portion of Firestone Park who come to shop there (usually with food stamps).
Let me clarify here... "The hood" portion of Firestone Park meaning the immediate edges of the community. The parts of Akron that are often labeled as FP, but aren't.

I agree with you that FP isn't the hood, but it's getting bad. Too many rentals. And I've lived her for 30 years--all my life. I don't like Wal-Mart either, but a lot of times they are cheaper and you gotta do what you gotta do. We frequent the one in Brimfield...the Supercenter.
Wal Mart in Brinfield blows everybody away on prices now. Giant Eagle & Acme in Tallmadge aren't even in the price game plus has everyone notice GE is charging $.10 more for a gallon of gas then the other gas stations around them? So much for saving money on gas by buying at GE. I have to stretch my retirement dollars as far as I can and Wal Mart allows me to do just that.

Heinen's has the best meat selections ever, but at a very high price. Their grocery prices are even higher then Acme & GE. They would not survive in the middle class Akron & Tallmadge area.

where is our highland square grocery store, albrecht??
Gotta agree here. I am glad to see Acme growing. One of the holdouts from my youth still gettin' by.

But, ACME, put the dang store in Highland Square like you said you would! You are obviously making money these days, so even if it is low margin or breakeven, you will pick up goodwill by doing it. Hell, I might even start going to your stores more often!

I used to shop at Heinen's a lot. Their prices have skyrocket, the chashiers are not as friendly and their produces is bad. I rarely shop there anymore. You can actually get better groceries at Marc's than Heinen's for about half the cost.

This is true, however, it's technically not in Firestone Park. FP's cutoff is North Firestone Blvd. Anything north of that is considered South Akron (it's on a map of Akron). Also, the IGA (formerly May's) is high-priced unless they have a good buy on milk, etc. Not to mention it's very small compared to an ACME.[Yes, Firestone Park IGA is not technically in "the park". But, have you actually compared the prices between stores or do you just "feel" they are more expensive? In a recent study, Marc's was found to be cheapest, followed by Wal-mart, Ellet IGA(Same as Firestone Park IGA), Acme, then Giant Eagle. This was based on 30 items that people generally buy every week. Want to know who did the study? Call the ABJ.]

I always liked Acme better than Giant Eagle. The Eagle stores are dirty...always were.

Try Buehlers in Wadsworth. It's the closest you'll get to Heinen's in the Akron area.
