Charles Chlysta III,

It is not the end speed reduction that can save on fuel, it is the reduction of any action that changes your speed drastically, acceleration and braking.

If you accelerate slowly and keep distance between you and the car in front of you (so you do not have to slam on the brakes and loose your momentum) then you will see a much bigger change is mileage. By doing what I can to keep my RPMs under 2k, I have increased my efficiency by 10.8% even though I drive 70 mph on the highway. I saw no noticeable change by just reducing my speed to 60.

F. Eugene Smith,

This might be me... but I think Akron has bigger issues than billboards right now. Little things like education, crime, and incompetent leaders.

good luck with that idea, I would have to pull over and remove the car behind me from my trunk. It seems that drivers have gotten 10x worse than what they were before the gas prices went up. They are insane.

Forget about 60 mph speed limits, bump it up to 75 and make a law that if slower drivers get in the way we're allowed to bump them off the road.

I would agree. For the most part, people cannot drive.

My biggest frustration is that if people started driving with the good of the all of the cars on the road in mind, everyone would get to their destination faster.

For example, most traffic jams are caused by people forcing their way in front of other cars (car A). This causes a driver (car B) to hit the brakes, which causes a chain reaction backwards.

If car A would not have squeezed in to get one car length ahead, everyone would be better off. If car B would have been following at a reasonable distance, he would not have had to hit the brakes when someone merges, everyone would have been better off.

An entire highway of cars all moving at 60mph will all arrive faster than if they were on a highway of half the cars going 60 and the other half going 70.

But who am I kidding... this is America dammit! We like our cars to go fast and only worry about ourselves.

Actually I have thought for a long time that I should have a button for when you got in my way or if you were a stupid driver in general I could press it and it would set off an alarm in your car. or an arm would come out from the roof of the car and smack you in the head,or I could have a direct link into your car and yell at you. I just keep dreaming.

There certainly would be a bunch of alarms going off that's for sure since many people disagree what the term "good driver" actually means. I think someone who drives 60 in a 65 is a bad driver or 40 in a 45. I'd much rather travel with folks going 75 in a 65, it makes more sense.

Have a good day

I'm not sure if I want monetary advice from people who pay $25 for a tire gauge that they can get at K-mart for a buck ...

I keep saying I'm going to make a sign and keep it in my car that says, "THE LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING, JERK!!!!" Then, I could hold it up every time I'm forced to move into the right lane to pass someone driving under the speed limit in the left lane, obviously not trying to pass anyone.

I need one of those signs. Every morning driving on 619 I have to pass the same jerk driving a Red Dodge Ram pickup going 40mph in a 45. You'd think he'd learn the proper way to drive by now. Fortunately most of the backed up drivers can get around him after we pass the old "Flying Machine" club. I wish I had one of those buttons installed that I could push that would slap him into reality.
