Has anyone heard about the initiative to stop smoking in ALL Tazewell County Restaurants? Right now if a restaurant has 50 seats, then it must have a smoking and non smoking section. Most do not provide for adequate smoke ventilation. Which means you will smell the smoke even if you sit in a non smoking section. Seems there are a few trying to pass legislation to stop smoking altogether in restaurants.... This group has a large following and it looks like they will be able to sneak this in under the radar on the ballots in upcoming local elections...... WHat do you think?

Great idea! I hate leaving a restaurant smelling like an ashtray b/c someone doesn't have sense enough to not smoke around others. If you want to be stupid enough to smoke don't do it around others.

As a smoker, i really have no problem with the indoor smoking ban. I try to be courteous with my smoking as much as i can, and if that means smoking in the car on the way home, so be it.

That legislation has already passed and it is not tazewell co it was the whole state of VA. Starting Dec. 1st there is no smoking in a public food establishment unless the smokming area is completely seperated for the other including being in another room with a seperate door and must have speacial vents if thoses conditions are not met you can not smoke there.

I think it's a great idea. If this VA legislation has been passed, why can you still smoke in most restaurants without separate rooms? Italian Village, O'Charley's, Shoney's (except for Sundays.. unless they moved their smoking section to the separate room), etc...?

Proud American Mom wrote: <quoted text> I don't remember asking the price of a hamburger but thanks for the info That's a good question about The Village, never thought about that one, but as a smoker, I don't think there should be smoking allowed in any public place, and that includes in front of the doors, I have witnessed rude smokers who will huddle in front of the door of walmart and blow their smoke into ppls face! Although I smoke I would never do that, most people have no idea that i even smoke unless they have known me for a long time! It's an awful, expensive, deadly habit, and I'm proud to say that after 15 years I'm in the process of quiting, but I will still not down those who choose to smoke...unless they are the rude ones that I've mentioned!

NOT A GOOD IDEAL. Its discrimination and YES I am a respectable smoker! I think the non-smoking ban is WRONG. How would you feel if they banned perfume/colonge to be worn in public or maybe take something you enjoy away.Hey they need to ban use of cell phones while people are eating. SMOKERS WE HAVE NO RIGHTS !!! And for YEP smelling like an ashtray when you leave is stupid.

I see absolutely no reason why someone should have to smoke while sitting down somewhere and eating. You can't possibly tell me that the tast of the cig. makes the food taste better too. I agree full heartedly with this new legislation. I think its for the greater health of society and way better for business. Right now, there's some places my grandmother can't go to because she's on oxygen and can't take the risk of being around smoking. How is it far to her to not be able to go somewhere just because other people are smoking? It takes away her rights more than it takes away smokers rights because at least the smokers can still smoke. Personally I think smoking should be banned from public property such as stores and resturaunts all together and people shouldn't even be allowed to stand outside the building and smoke.

As a smoker I think it is a great thing to ban smoking in public places. I along with many of my friends smokes, and as smokers we respect NON SMOKERS... Smoking is a choice. There are alot of older people and younger as well that has breathing problems and I would hate to think that my habit would in some way make them uncomfortable or even sick... Not to mention that to a non smoker the smell is extremley nasty. To the smokers we can't really smell it. I never smoke in public places (I don't even smoke in my own home due to respect of visitors I may have) and if I smoke outside of a resturaunt I never ever stand in front of the entrance and smoke for others to have to walk thru my second hand smoke. I hate when other smokers do this, I go as far as I can away from people, and I think others should give the same respect. I think it is a great thing and I hope that the law is passed NATION WIDE!!

The legislation starts Dec 1. next time you go into Shoney's look at the sign on their front desk. One says No smoking on Sundays only and the one beside it says starting Dec. 1 this facility will be a non smoking facility. Meaning no smoking at any time

I hope this also stands for those gas stations that serve food. There are certain gas station I will not go into because there are a bunch of old farts standing around blowing their cigarrette smoke at the register. You come out smelling worse than you would if you were smoking yourself.

I don't mind the whole ban on smoking in public places thing because I too try to be respectful about not smoking. But what about El Mars?? It's more like a bar on the weekends and trust me if you drink and you're a smoker then you smoke twice as much when you drink.
And I also heard something a while back that they were going to try to make it to where you couldn't smoke in your own vehicle?? Anyone heard anything about this??? All I can say to that is I'LL BE DAMNED IF THEY ARE GONNA KEEP ME FROM SMOKING IN SOMETHING THAT MY NAME IS ON THE TITLE TO!!! I don't litter my ciggarette butts so why shouldn't I be able to smoke in my own vehicle??

Alot of people have asthma and allergies to smoke....I have never had a attack or felt sick from someones perfume or cologne but I have from smoke...I do agree with you on cell phones and have seen signs where cashiers can refuse to help you if you are on one and I love that. You may not care about how your smoke can hurt someone now but when you are 80 are have trouble breathing you will respect how bad that can hurt others because it will happen to you.
