isn't that beatting all around the question ask or the statement made about gays thats its a sin? no where in the scriptures you used does it spell anything out in black and white. Now as far a denim skirt don't apply don't belive that way or with the long hair buned crowd I do think and belive that my Bible and soul salvaiton should be taken as stated not twisted to suit some preacher. and I am not for GAYS or what they stand for just show me where in the book it states for a fact that it is a sin. do not show me all the other scriptures that are so often twristed until no one can understand them. A well versed person or preacher can take the Bible and make it say things and other can use it to tickle the ears and fill their pockets. So to you keep on reading and have a blessed day after all it is the day the Lord has made isn't it?

SINNER

We are all sinners saved by grace. And it does seem that a lot of stuff that is posted on this thread is not as it should be. Some people are not blind but yet they cannot see. some people are not deaf yet they cannot hear. And some like me just try to do what I read in the good book and do and treat people like I wish them to treat me. I don't put money into their pockets but will see that no one goes hungry or shoeless in my area if I now about it and can help them in anyway. I wouldn't pay to much attention to this thread or it posters including me. Anyone can take the Bible and use it for their own purposes.

Satan is the master at twisting scripture to dupe the weak-spirited into doubting & disbelieving, make it tickle their ears, and uses it to empty their pockets.

Where better to dupe the weak-spirited than in a church? Satan isn't interested in those already lost. He's only interested in those for which there is hope. Until a person learns to distinguish between the anointed the self-serving they will always experience problems and be mislead like the person who started this thread was.

Spelling it Out.

I fully agree with what you are saying. one must be lead by the Holy Goast and when they are shown what the truth is they must also be willing to accept it. I have attended and called myself a christen for years and have left churchs for such as is being posted on this thread. our churchs in this area are full of selfserving preachers and pastors. I find it hard to atend church during these times. Not much can be said or preached that I havent heard and yet most of it depending on the church and its preacher will be twisted to suit the church's beleafs and that of it preacher. so for me I read my Bible and try to work out my own salvation and don't pay alot of attenction to preacher anymore.

I totally understand what you guys are saying about the churches around here & how hypocritical they tend to be. I used to feel the same way and at times still do. My husband started going to City on a Hill when it was still in Tazewell b/c he has always enjoyed listening to Barry preach. He kept telling me if I went once I would love it. I finally listened to him one nite. I felt so uncomfortable and spent the entire service watching the people there and I just knew they were all talking about me. Maybe some were but it was mostly just my own paranoia. I decided to go back and this time I blocked out everyone but Barry and it was amazing. I listened to everything he said and it was as if he really was speaking directly to me, to my experiences in my own life. He is so wonderful at taking 1 or 2 tiny verses, applying it to our world today and giving a different perspective. Yes it is Penacostal (brace yourselves, I was raised Baptist) church, yes he speaks in tongues, makes really corny jokes and has a country drawl like he was born and raised in Doran Bottom BUT he is awesome!! I'm telling you, go 1 time (its Richlands, what else have you got to do) you will be so glad you did. That man, maybe not the church or it's members but Barry Absher himself changed my life. Just remember if any of you decide to go, block out the stares & whispers that you may feel are directed at you (9x's outta 10 it's all in your head) and just focus on what he is saying, close your eyes and take it in. You may just find that that weird "holiness" church with the preacher that some say is sketchy might just change your life, your families life and your soul.

They get offend, because the light of truth of the word of GOD, shows to them like they are looking in a looking glass, and they see the evil of their doing, before their face.
I want to thank you. Your post was some of the best post Ive ever read on the Topix. I could just feel in my heart that you are a good person and are telling things about the Bible that you believe with your whole heart to be true...btw, I believed every word you wrote also.

Sounds like you've got your denim skirt wrapped too tight. You're the typical example of today's people who hide from what's in the Bible rather than finding out just what's in it and who seek others who justify your actions.
II Timothy 4:3-4
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
And what difference what label you apply to another person's actions if those actions keeps them out of heaven?
Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
As for judging others, God judges the soul; man is qualified to judge earthly matters (works, deeds, actions).
I Corinthians 6:4
4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
For those who think they can wallow in their abominations here on earth and that God loves them and has to forgive them, they have a surprise coming. God doesn't even know them.
Matthew 7:23
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The bible in the hands of a sinner, is like a gold ring, in a pigs snout.

Really? Here I thought cults were full of people that were led around like sheep going to slaughter being taught to do as the "leader" says or burn in hell...good thing you gave me the heads up before I drank my Kool-aide. Do you know this because you were a member of City on a Hill at one time or did you base your knowledge solely on things you have heard while never once actually stepping foot inside the church and giving it a chance? Just curious.

If you look into his past with an open mind I should think you would see what he has done. then theres the Ass.ofGod in raven theres is quit a bit of information if you are truly wantin to know about the pastor in question. so I don't take things at their face value. question things you may not like the answers you receive but facts will speck for themselves.

let me add this to the above post. the COH isn't the only church that someone could say was a cult in the richlands area. the town is full of them and it takes a persons time and enegry to try them out. I think that there is somewhere in the bible where it states to try the spirit but to try it you must be spirit feeled also I would think. Called by God may give you a better verse or state this much better than I did.

You guys I totally get what you're saying and I know about the stuff that happened at the church he had in Raven. But to say it's a cult, thats a pretty big accusation don't you think? Obviously nobody can try out all the so-called "cult" churches around here but in this case it would be worth going to see for yourself. I'm not a member but I do go regularly. It's not a cult I promise. If you keep an open mind and give it a try you may be surprised.

One more thing, and I am not the type of person to be a rude smart elic so please don't take this as such, but have you looked into his past with an open mind? His past includes drinking, smoking, fighting and a host of other things. This is exactly why he is able to help such a diverse group of people. He doesn't condemn he simply gives a new perspective. I don't want someone that has never been down my road to be in charge of guiding me spiritually. I personally want to be advised by someone that knows how to help b/c he has been there, that's the key in helping someone. Here's an example-I have battled addiction for many years and had a whole lot of certified, college educated drug counselors try to offer advice. But the woman that actually helped me get clean and sober (over 2 yrs now yay!) had no formal training. She was a volunteer that was also a drug addict for almost 20yrs. She was the only one that ever got thru to me. It is his past that makes him the exceptional preacher he is today.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening come Judgment Day, not just the gays! It's better, I suppose, to look at someone else's sins and wrongdoings. That way, we don't have to look at our own, and none of us is without sin. I'm not gay, but I cannot and will not take it upon myself to say whether a gay person can go to Heaven or not, and neither can you or anybody else. Only God has the final say in who makes it and who doesn't.
There is so much wrong in the world today, babies being raped and murdered every day, child abuse and neglect, the drug epidemic, and the list goes on and on. These are things that hurt everybody. Yet, there is no outrage or rally against all these evils. But, people sure don't hesitate for a minute to give the gays hell, as if being gay is the biggest and only sin there is. And, just whom do gays hurt? Only themselves, if anybody.
If I think a gay person is living in sin and in danger of hell, I would rather speak of him/her and TO him/her with kindness and compassion rather than make a harsh judgment, one of superiority and smug self-righteousness as you have done.
