Reality Check

United States

#1 Jan 1, 2013
Ok so lets see a baseball team is going to need a lot of paying fans. Where are the jobs for the people who are supposed to support this team? Unless these games are like the dollar movie or free no ones going to pay. Hell people still park along the back side of the football game to watch hs football.

What is the city of Raton going to pitch in? I thought we were broke? More lies and creative people who will be let down because no one wants to invest in Raton... Why people and their shitty attitudes.

We have an unskilled work force and no talks of even developing work force sponsored skilled programs. Where will the community be in this business adventure? Are we going to have to pay higher taxes to erect a sports complex? A lot of people want to throw big ideas out there but with out a strong economy our town will be one sorry hell hole if the deal falls through like the race track. I'd like to see numbers as to what this league has pulled in since it started . Perhaps a conduct a survey and get the opinion of the citizens. To be honest at the other end of this stick this could be an attempt to dump a failing league and blame it on us. People better start asking questions because when you hear news that sounds to good to be true usually it is. And lookie another Texas based company.

its a low-budget baseball league. probably make most of their money from concession sales. tickets are dirt cheap and the players are practically volunteers.

if you think either the city or the Pecos League is spending a bunch of money on this enterprise, you are grossly mistaken

Some people will shoot their mouth off and have no idea what they are taking about. This is a semi-pro league. Look it up before you post your next stupid statement.

Sounds like someone struck a nerve. Regardless these has to be an economic stability in the community before something like this can be achieved. Apparent your old ways of doing business are relevant and now the entire possiablity of a semi pro league may be in jeopardy . Why? Because you continue to pop off at the mouth. We will see what the New Mexico Athletics Commission has to say about this when I contact them tomorrow and start asking indepth questions . To me it still sounds like a dying horse someone is trying to pawn off on Raton. And in turn citizens will be left to pay for the bill for uthinizing the animal (being the baseball project) I say stop using Raton as a scape goat !!!

Nothing is dirt cheap except for you and your fashion. But then again plad is coming back . But I don't see anything dirt cheap especially in Raton unless its your daughter hocking up her skirt again. Strike One

Anybody here the news on the big Raton fans bllowup in Trinidad last night! I guess it got really bad and it was started by yes people from Raton.

Trinidad is now contemplating stopping all sporting events with the Raton School District. The Trinidad Board of Education is going to put it on the agenda next month and vote to restrict all competetions with Raton...

This is NOT a Semi-Pro league. Players and coaches in this league are PAID TO PLAY!!! Although it may not be very much, they are still paid.

This is why I hate TOPIX....ALWAYS someone out there that has to be negative about everything.

I agree someone needs to contact the nm athletics commission to ensure that all obligations are met. There is nothing wrong with researching that idea, and especially since we have such a rude response to it that's a red flag I see that must be investigated. Raton has been used one to many times in the past by a lot of wealthy who wiped there ass with us and our opinions. I personally believe this is a nice idea but for some reason numbers and opinions just don't add up. People are not as stupid as you think and these questions are very vital and your disregard for anyone's opinion only scares me and makes me feel like y'all are up to something. Occupy NM is looking into this situation I can promise you that.

How are ticket sales / admission charges going to happen. Raton's field of dreams is wide open - there are not any gates and the baseball field can be viewed from all four (north, south, east & west) positions.
Somewhere something was said about a fence - who's going to pay for that and won't that create a problem for the parking lot (which is also used for the convention center)? Just wondering.....

The statement about the brawl in Trinidad is directed at the civil unrest that is going on here in Raton. Do you not see the warning signs? I'm actually trying to help you out.
Raton + Baseball=Bad Idea. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. What we need is interstate traffic directed into Raton. A new city web site a city slogan , a few buckets of paint and a good old fashioned sign that says Raton open for business.

This is a bad idea and to be honest sounds like Raton is being used as a scape goat for a failing enterprise . Take your bs game and go else where with it and don't come back unless you have a good solid plan to bring industry back to Raton.

location is perfect for PecosLeague
the reason the league is going there is because the ballpark is great and less travel for las vegas, santa fe and trinidad...you will be surprised when you see the hitting and pitching, the guys will impress you

So how many people/families in Raton have signed up for taking in one or more of these impressive pitching, hitting ball players?
