Maybe, if that's the case, I don't see a point in this then. I wouldn't mind turning it into a learning type facility, almost like a college class, but that wouldn't be possible with HS students.

Slightly less necessary than bullet proof windows, and blast doors. I wouldn't mind having a registered nurse on a school's payroll. It doesn't mean much to MCHS since the "hospital" is right next door, but it would mean a little more to NMHS. At least you'd have a person there that knew how to handle injuries in case one ever happened. Maybe even a person that kept products to prevent kids of suffocating because of asthma or an allergic reaction...
Small price to pay for a child's safety...
Small price? I hardly think so. As far as my childrens safety? I think the faculty and school nurse do a fine job using a little common sense. Yes this sounds nice but I just think there's more important things to fund in this county.

No,there is one nurse for the entire county, and she goes wherever she is called. Each school has a designated person to dispense medications, bandaids, etc., but no nurses.
I'm very skeptical of a school based clinic. Why not develop partnerships with clinics that already exist? Maybe find some way to encourage clinics to locate further north and south?

I agree, if a DR. truley wants to help these kids then why not open the doors to his practice for these kids rather than use grants to be inside a school? Im also very skeptical of this myself.

<quoted text>I agree this county is so full of uneducated people trying to teach children and the ideas from the top are a joke just like the new mansion that was built as a school in this small community which was already in bad shape and they went out and spent a fortune to make another family member a new job
You are so off base on this matter that it is absolutely funny. The school board that voted for the "mansion" was chaired by Julius Weyman and he is the one who helped design it. He also purchased the land. That school board would NOT vote Dr. Reed in as principal. Julius and the rest had a ground breaking and all, so the current or last school board cannot be blamed for the "mansion."
The next school board came in and the only qualified person who applied was Dr. Reed and therefore she was given the job.

Now, that is the truth and I am so sick of people putting things on Topix that are outright lies.

And, any more questions you have, please address me. I will give you the truth.

1.6 million. About 30,000 an acre which is three to four times what land has sold for in this county lately for a 150 acre tract.

I have to admit, thats an awful lot of money paid per acre. I guess thats why were so skeptical when the county starts talking about things like this clinic. Who's the real ones that will benefit from this?

Check your facts on that figure and get back with me. I honestly believe it is more like 2.6 million dollars.

There are actually several employees that has family members who are medical doctors. Not sure but i dont think any of them are General Practioners or Pediatricians so probably no one's close relative. However, if they are from Murray County then they are probably related to someone somehow in the system. BTW if you are talking about Dr. Nick Reed, he is an orthopedic surgeon so I don' t think he will give up a promising practice when he returns to GA later this year to staff a school based clinic.

As always people are so closed minded to new things that it is no wonder we lag behind our neighboring counties in most everything!

I plan to attend the next meeting to see for myself what is being offered before making an uninformed decision like many of you. Did anyone who has posted here actually attend the meeting or are you just blowing smoke?
