To put it simply, Jemison needs new buildings for it's middle and high schools. With two children attending these sections of the school I have made many trips inside and the conditions are a mere step up from deplorable.

My eldest child is afraid to be in the gymnasium for fear of a wall foundation sinking. It is an embarrassment for family and friends to see the auditorium in it's tattered state during band or other special events. Just within the last couple of years the school was under threat of closure because of asbestos.

Student enrollment is growing by leaps and bounds with each passing year leading to over crowded class rooms. The few government provided trailers are not enough relief.

My question is why? Why does it take so much longer for the state of Alabama and Chilton county to recognize that something needs to be done? It can't be for lack of land. Jemison may be a small town but there is plenty of acreage which would support a new educational structure.

I understand that there is only so much of a budget to work from and it seems to me if these high dollar politicians we've elected would take a cut in pay rather than voting their selves a raise with every passing year there would be more of a budget to work with.

The town of Jemison is also guilty of wasteful spending. Rather than put money into improving the existing buildings the council chooses to use it to create a new park.

I would love to hear your feedback on this issue.
