How sad........I wonder why he chose to end his life. Hey South Bay residents, this is a tough time for a lot of people. Please take some time and visit friends and family.

Why hasn't the LAPD commented on this great officers death. He was one of there own. There has been no mention anywhere from the LAPD. I know that he did not die in the line of duty but should his accomplishments be swept under the rug. I am asking someone in the media to find out why the LAPD is so quite.

Rich Mathias was one of LAPD's best. A hard working, courageous and tough cop. However, for me, Rich's strength resided in his love for dogs...Especially the "Bully Breeds!" Rich, from the humans and dogs who had the good fortune to know you...We will dearly miss you my friend!! Please take care of all those dogs in heaven!!

I still expect you to walk in and order your Americano, make me laugh, greet a friend, smoke a cigar, pet a dog, and be the warm, loving person we all knew, admired, and miss. Save a seat for me.

Not only the LAPD has been quiet but the media in general has been quiet. I live in San Pedro and I can be the first to tell you that WE never spread news in our town when it is negative, I can't tell you why though...Wish I knew! I can't tell you how many crime stories come through that the newspapers do not report on, police do not report on...That's why TOPIX is so great, I guess we can report on stuff here ourselves! He will be missed and it was such an unfortunate situation.

We still patrol your house. We take care of our own. And we don't forget our own. Keep an eye on us from up there.

Rich,

I'm so sorry that you felt this was the only answer. You were always there for your friends. I wish you could have turned to us in your time of need. We miss you terribly.

While I didn't know Rich personally, I had a connection with him and was very upset to find out the news today. By all that I have found or have been given he was a fine, upstanding man who was well-loved by his friends, family and co-workers. I'm sad I won't get a chance to meet him.

No matter how much times goes by I still miss you. It still hurt to think your gone. I stop by the station from time to time thinking I'm going to pay you a visit see you smile. Miss you my friend. You have no idea how much you were and are loved. How you impacted the lives of those around you. Thank you for giving me strength when I needed it. Telling me to not give up. Understanding where I came from cause you came from there too. I just wish I could have been that strong for you when you needed it. I love you Rich. I'll see you when I get to the other side. Till then keep watchin out for you trainees.

To vess4, you obviously don't know Rich very well....you should ask his girlfriend to take flowers to his site. His wife already has and continues to frequently visit there. Pull your head out

Rich didn't have a girlfriend, he had a fiance. Who by the way, loved him more than life itself. I think that he would be sad to know that people are writing such mean things to one another on this post. He was such a kind, giving person and would have wanted people to remember as such. Please be kind to one another and pray that he has found the peace that he so desperately deserved in his life.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Taurus

You have a very high opinion of someone today. In fact, you're really impressed with them and you'll probably sing their praises to anyone who'll listen. If you meet someone for the first time now, you'll be very impressed and this will never change throughout your relationship. But try not to idealize them into something they're not.
