I've read these posts for the entire 1 1/2 years that he's been gone, and never reply... I do understand why everyone feels the way they do. His relationships were different depending on how well he allowed you to know him. I miss him greatly & sometimes I feel like these people on this blog have been the only people I can grieve with. Bad or good. Thank you & God bless!

I know that this is two years later but I just want to say that he was a very good man. I met him when I was 2 years old and since then he has been a huge part of my life. When my dad was never there for me, my step dad Joseph was. He always knew the right things to say to make me feel better. He was such an awesome person and so fun to be around. The only flaw he had was his anger, which in the end got the best of him. Erica and her boyfriend would antagonize my dad. And I know what he did wasn't right but anyone who has ever been antagonized know that one day you just snap. Some snap more than others. I'm very upset with what he did but other people are to blame to lead him up to this.. and those of you bashing him for dating a 20 year old.. what about bashing her for being a damn gold digger. He bought her a diamond necklace that she still wore after she left him for someone else. And the person she left him for was also older. She is a girl who just wants attention. Posting pictures on fb in lingerie. But she doesn't get all this hatred and crap talking? Anyways screw her. I love my dad and I always will. And I will always remember the good times that we had. I love you. <3 rest in Paradise. <3

To Staff Member at ALHS, you apparently knew specific information about Linda K Bangasser Smith. I went to high school with Linda where we graduated in 1971 in Freeport, IL. I am trying to find out more about events leading up to her apparent suicide. I would appreciate any information or names of colleagues, that I might speak to to help me, and our class fill in the blanks. Linda was a much admired and loved classmate. I know that many people are still mourning the loss today. I can also be reached at [email protected]

FIRST AND FOREMOST ID LIKE TO SAY THAT IT'S BEEN 3 YRS SINCE MR. ZARATE HAS PASSED AND HE STILL IS TRULY MISSED. AS A STUDENT OF HIS FOR 3 YRS. HE STILL IS THEE BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. WEITHER IT WAS CRIMINAL JUSTICE, GOVERNMENT OR ECONOMICS..I ENJOYED ALL OF HIS CLASSES. HE WAS LIKE MY BIG BROTHER THAT I NEVER HAD & HE WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR ME EVEN WHEN I GRADUATED IN 2003. OND THING THAT PPL DON'T UNDERSTAND IS THAT MR. ZARATE WAS AN AMAZING TEACHER WHO KEPT STUDENTS COMPLETELY INTERESTED & INTACT WITH THE SUBJECT. WE DIDN'T PRAISE HIM WHEN HE PASSED, WE SIMPLY GAVE HIM CREDIT FOR BEING A GREAT TEACHER WHO HAD A GREAT CONNECTION WITH HIS STUDENTS. WE WANTED PPL TO REMEMBER HIM FOR WHAT ALTA LOMA HIGH SCHOOL REMEMBERED HIM AS. WHAT EVER WAS GOING ON IN MR. ZARATE's PERSONAL LIFE, IS DEFINITELY NOT OUR BUSINESS & IT WILL ALWAYS BE A ONE SIDE STORY. THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON IN YOUR LIFETIME THAT CAN JUDGE YOU & THAT IS THE ONE THAT CREATED YOU "GOD." THERE IS NO ONE IN THIS WORLD THAT IS PERFECT, WE ARE ALL HUMAN & WE DO MAKE MISTAKES. MR. ZARATE's FAMILY HAS GONE THROUGH ENOUGH PAIN THEY DO NOT NEED TO SEE YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS. SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, PLEASE KEEP IT TO YOURSELF! IF YOU KNOW THE TRUTH STILL KEEP IT TO YOURSELF BECAUSE ITS NOT YOUR STORY TOO TELL!! NO ONE KNOWS WHY MR. ZARATE DID WHAT HE DID & NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW THE TRUTH. JUST REMEMBER HIM AS THE TEACHER THAT ALWAYS SAID EVERY FRIDAY "HAVE FUN THIS WEEKEND AND MAKE SURE YOU COME BACK ON MONDAY" OR SIMPLY THE TEACHER THAT ALWAYS LISTENED WHEN WE HAD A PROBLEM. YOU ARE TRULY MISSED MR. ZARATE AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE!! WE LOVE YOU!!

was a student at ALJHS when Miss B. (we all called her that :) was the music teacher. She was very kind and a true inspiration to a lot of us. She made us feel important and that playing music together was an experience well worth all the hard work. It was tragic to hear about her suicide and unfortunately she had a difficult life even though her students respected her greatly. I'm proud to have been one of her students. Jon H. - Class of 1984

I'm trying to figure out if this Erika is the same one I dated back in like 2007. If so then well all the stuff I'm hearing could make sense but I'm just curious.

He was mean and obsessed with tearing down firefighters. If he found out somebody in your family was a firefighter he would treat you unfairly many other students had reported him and the school did nothing about it. One day my mother went to the principal and showed her his arrest record, we still to this day do not understand how he got a teaching job. He was violent and mean, never was he a good teacher let alone person.

No other details than she jumped under a commuter train at Euclid Ave. just West of where it stops at 2cnd(?), I'm going to guess 10 or 12 years ago.
She was a bit strange I agree. Would have never thought she was THAT strange but I guess she was.
Maybe she thought she was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, leap tall buildings buildings in a single bound... Look!!...Under the train!, it's a bird, it's a squash!!!! It WAS Ms. B!
Not funny at all. Ms B had battled cancer for years. She had no one to support her really. She had a few relapses with cancer. At her last relapse she couldn't take it anymore. She chose to end her life while she was in a great deal of pain and fear and loneliness. My heart goes out to her. She was a supportive and kind and cool person.

I'm sorry, but this is a horrible, painful website. Nothing worse than trying to reminisce and mourn a teacher, a loved one or anyone who touched our lives w/o obnoxious pop-ups ruining the continuity, the headspace and the dignity our lost ones deserve.

I understand you have to pay the bills, but you website is so convoluted with ads (for products no one cares about) that the entries are next to impossible to read.

I hearby boycott any and all 'sponsors' who interrupt us and bog down sites when we're reading and grieving.

I found the following information tonight. Ms. B was my music teacher at ALJH back in the early 80's.
http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/ivdailybulle...
Linda K. Smith, "Ms. B" was born in 1953 and passed away May 7, 2003. Linda received her music education from the University of Illinois and her M.A. in 1976. She taught in Illinois, moved to California and became the band director at Alta Loma Jr. High School in 1979 until November 2002. She could no longer teach due to her illness. Linda's main goal in life was to inspire her students to do their best in music and their f uture endeavors. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bangasser, her brother and his wife, Doctors Ronald and Susan Bangasser, and her nieces, Sandra and Debra of Redlands. Donations in Linda's memory may be made to the Alta Loma Jr. High School Instrumental Program through the Alta Loma School District on Baseline Road in Alta Loma.
