Sounds like she got her benefits just in time to graduate...welfare and warfare state has only one destiny: self destruction. Good bye America, it was nice knowing you. The American people are too stupid/brainwashed and we will soon join the rest of humanity at full blown serfdom. The idea of freedom died in 1913 when the Federal Reserve Bank and IRS was formed. You were the small beacon of hope many generations ago, but the globalist bankers and the military industrial complex seemed to be having their way. Thank you, R.I.P.

I'm not sure what's more surprising, this woman taking seven years to graduate all while on taxpayer's dime or the sheer number of people on CalWORKs.

...and this story was suppose to make me want to support this? Uh sure, I'm happy that I pay more taxes than the rest of the US to help unappreciative illegals come here and have kids while knowing they can't support them then go to college and get BAs. Uh yeah thanks for screwing me, please come again and bring more friends.

She spoke no English, how come? Was she here illegally, probably. She should have been deported instead of feeding off the taxpayers.

Chevron gouged $24 billions in excessive profits in 2008, as per www.tyrannyofoil.com . Schwarzenegger should put an excessive profits tax on these profits, instead of protecting the oil corporations from fair taxation, then, there would be sufficient public funds for all the vulnerable, people programs. Big business lost the fight to eliminate domestic violence funding, so now they are coming back with a vengeance. There is no funding provision for battered women shelters in the May Revise. Schwarzee picks on the most vulnerable and not on corporate tax "deadbeats."

The CalWorks program should have a limit of one year max enrollment. The idea behind CalWorks is to get people back to work ASAP, not to provide free day care for 10 years as people go to college to get a masters degree. This is just to help you get to work as soon as possible so he can pay for your own day care. That's why the CalWorks program is going broke, people are milking the system for 10 years as they get their degrees in college. You can get to work after one year of schooling.

Are these people going to pay California back after they start making money?
Your typical college student is required to repay their student loans - therefore they should also be held accountable to repay the state for any monies recieved.

I'm very sorry about her situation - but it is through her own poor choices that she had no high school diploma, spoke little English and had no work experience. Do like everyone else - high school is free, English classes are almost free and get a job under the table like others who are here illegally. Why should we the taxpayers have to pay for her when we are also struggling to pay ffor our bills let alone pay for the sins of others. And what about child support - did she get any of that. What about her family and church - couldn't they help her as well. Enough is enough.

I think it's a shame that they are planning to do away with a great program, that helps people get back on their feet. What they should elimate is the money spent on sex offenders when they are released from prison. They are paid to relocate and go back into the mainstream. We as tax payers are being charged for their for these child molesters and rapists. What is wrong with this picture?
Please go to KTLA.com . When I saw this on the news it made me very angry. I don't understand why we as tax payers have to pay for low life criminals. It does not make sense. The programs that are most important are being omitted. The programs that should be eliminated are not. This is a total injustice to the people who are working hard to get back on their feet.
Who is running our state? Did you vote for these morons? What an injustice. No wonder California is in such a mess. We should be angry and speak up.

Wow! You have issues that need to be addressed. BTW, I don't think she was asking for you to be sorry. Besides, after she graduates the IRS will be hitting her up. I doubt that you did not get any government assistances. Medi-cal, food stamps, WIC, VOC, shelters, reduced payments for your bills, and etc... Are all tax payers money!! Check your facts! You of all people should be ashamed for your comments especially being victim of domestic violence.

It will benefit you to do some research on the CALWORKS system before you make your assumptions. It is impossible to be on CALWORKS will attending a University. She probably participated in the CALWORKS system prior to attending a 4 year University. Another fact, people can ONLY receive services for 5 years max. Also, undocument individual (in your words "unappreciative illegals") do not qualify for services!! In addition, there are more Caucasians or white individuals receiving government assistances in the United States than any other race. BTW, Calworks is not want caused California's budget crisis. It was the banks, real estate, and middle class individuals who could not afford 500k-800k homes with 3 cars. You are probably one of them.

How long are these types of programs sustainable?

How long?

How long can we give free entitlements to anyone? Even illegal aliens?

How much will hard working tax paying families be expected to pay the entitlement beast?

People who play by the rules are getting screwed everyday in California. Is that fair?

"She had no high school diploma, spoke no English and had very little work experience.
The woman enrolled in the state's welfare program, CalWORKs, which provided money and child care while she went to school."

Where are you getting your facts, are you a government worker? You sound bitter, are you in favor of socialism? How do you know more Caucasians or white individuals receive government assistance? Either way the system is BROKE and puts an unfair burden on everyone who pays taxes.

man oh man.. some people smooch off the system.
Mom told me some years ago- that when we were little... dad was working 2 jobs to feed us.
She said that people always told him- you dont have to work- have your wife go down to the welfare office and get money for each kid. You can stay home and drink beer all day.
His reply was something of the sort- What? NO. Ill feed my kids- I made them- Ill feed them.

Its funny- that the lady that owned the apartments we lived in- was very well off... lived in Altadena. Big pool- and her backyard overlooked the Mountains.. drove a Cadillac and played golf at Brookside.
well- we know she was lining up to get govt cheese.
Shed always tell my dad- you should go- get all that stuff for your kids..
Dad never did....
He had this sort of self pride-- that he would work to feed us and keep us in school.... that says alot about a man...

No idiot, she is actually US born but moved to a another country as a child. She holds dual citizenship. She came back to California as an adult and he husband was charged and ordered to child support, which is being deducted from his pay cheque monthly.
