remember that time when they arrested preschool teachers and tore the school apart for similar allegations?

Yeah, kids make things up.

That being said, no teacher would ever use a kids bathroom. The damn urinals are 2 feet off the ground, dirty, and are always packed from what I remember back in my elementary school days.

I can't believe these posters are reading the same articles that I am. A pattern of abuse over time is coming through loud and clear. The more I read, the more I understand that this guy is sick. No wonder abused kids are afraid to come forward if this is how they are treated.

Funny how these allegations didn't come out until a letter went home to the parents!

We need to stop making excuses for sick people like Mr. Megaw. Maybe then we can stop the cycle of abuse. It does'nt matter if they are priest or union board members zero tolerance needs to be inforced. If you like little kids it will eventually come out and you will have your day in court, if the parents let you make it that far. Then once you go to jail someone will have their day with you. Good luck you will need it.

What people fail to see is the evidence presented. Students who had him 5 years ago, who admitted to disliking him, saying, "Well I remember he did this."

Children never tell the truth. All the stories of incredible herculean strength "this one time" and hearing stories of jumping off buildings and not being hurt, just to show off.

I'm looking at the hard evidence here and that the prosecution has none, but the testimony of children when they were younger.

I have friends who went through his class, all of which wrote formal letters to his attorney, offering to provide testimony in his favor.

What does it matter if some kids liked him? Abusers don't abuse every single kid they come across. They are selective, as was this person aparently. Just because some kids liked him, that is eveidence he didn't do it? No wonder OJ got away with killing his wife and Mr. Goldman.

That is the key; you are basing your opinion on the articles. First, only the prosecution has put on witnesses so one would expect the testimony to sound bad for the accused. Second, the articles are very brief comments on hours of testimony in the courtroom. I would say to wait until the defense starts putting on witnesses, but you still will only know a very small part of what is actually being said in court. And, what you learn is limited to what the reporter decides to include in his article. Bottom line, only those in court everyday listening to every word said and able to see the demeanor of the witnesses can make an accurate decision on what they think did or did not happen.

I can't believe anyone would make excuses for this kind of behavior!

"Yeah, kids make things up."... "Children never tell the truth."?

You two are obviously either card carrying NAMBLA members or teacher's union goons!

I moved to Upland for the good schools. If this is how local teachers feel about this kind of behavior then I'm glad we've decided to send our kids to private school!

If there are any local Upland teachers out there who want to defend this district I suggest you speak up and condemn this guy. If there is ever a school bond on the ballot in the future, I will be the first one in line to donate money to defeat it and walk my neighborhood to make sure Upland teachers don't get another dime. Lay them all off, they are worthless.

Just to warn you, I have close friends that work within the UUSD, and I know many of the teachers from Valencia on a first name basis. The teachers, whom have the most to lose, openly defend their fellow teacher. Mind you, these aren't custodians and lunch ladies, but administration officials and colleagues of the guy.

And private school is terrible. When I went to high school, we always got transfers from Damien, St. Lucy's, etc. They knew very littler and were just stuck up, with no intelligence to show it.

Teachers do not defend this type of behavior if it really happened. In fact, most teachers are disgusted by this. Unfortunately, many people, including you, judge others without knowing the facts or allowing the judicial system to conduct a trial. Kids do lie. Parents do too, especially if money is involved. I am not saying that this is the case here, but it is not my place to judge, nor is it yours. How can you judge all teachers based on the actions of a few? Would you like to be judged like that? I suspect that you send your kids to a good Christian school because obviously you have good Christian values, like judging others. Maybe your kids need public school to help them develop tolerance for others.

He's a family friend of ours. I actually know the man in real life, and my family has been close with his for longer then you realize.

But its more of a protest against the "if its sexual" its instantly bad stigma. Same goes for the droves of racists on these boards.

You are correct about abusers being selective, in fact they gravitate towards males or females and it makes no sense that both genders are making accusations. Unfortunately, many kids from that classroom that witnessed what did not go on and can contradict the accusing students, have parents choosing to not get involved and let their kids testify. And the previous comment about a student and teacher being in the same bathroom is totally correct. They do not share.

the string of comments defending this guy, because you all know him personally, really makes me wonder....

just because an adult knows another adult does not mean you know this person on a child-to-adult basis. this perception you have of this guy might change depending on your age and whether or not he has his 'eye' on you. most adults completely miss this predatory gaze since it is not fixed upon them.

this guy's entire life is going to be pre-occupied with making sure no one discovers his sickness, because he worked with kids.

at least now we upland parents can breath easier knowing he has willingly resigned. which also makes me wonder: did he finally resign because he knew he was caught? did he give up the game because he knew the evidence was stacked against him *this* time?

the previous allegations against this man aren't exactly redeeming, either.

Another person who knows all of the facts without even hearing the trial. How can you breathe easier when you do not know if he is guilty? It actually scares me how so many people are willing to condemn someone without knowing the facts or allowing a jury to convict. What if he is truly innocent? The public and the Daily Bulletin have already convicted him. He did not resign because of this. If you knew the facts you would know this. Think about it. Could a teacher really do all of this in front of at least 20 other students? It only came up after a student was caught with a naughty note. The kid didn't want to be in trouble so he blamed the teacher. Once the accusation was made, others jumped on board. Believe me, if you ask kids the right questions you can get the answers you want. He had many parent volunteers and their was a teacher next door who was in his room frequently. It could not happen. Kids at that age tell everything that happens in the classroom. Someone would have said something earlier. Think about McMartin. A whole group of kids who lied because they were told to lie about it. All of this defies common sense. Even the 15 year old only came forward after the accusation was made. Of course, the DB listed it as prior to the arrest, but the arrest was after the accusations was made and the notes went out to the parents. As a first and second grade teacher, I could not cough without the kids telling their parents I was sick. There is no way that this happened for so long without prior complaints.
