Simple answer...form neighborhood shifts and constantly ring their doorbells until they see the error of their ways.

Simple answer, don't live in human shit factories........

For what it is worth people should not build or live in places like you do. That you are being forced to comply with rules made by the board YOU elected is no ones problem but your own and IMHO not news worthy.

"The new regulation stated that any resident or guest parked for more than three nights within a seven-day period were subject to immediate towing."

What a crock of s**t. I can possibly understand guests taking up spaces for longer than 3 days being towed, but NOT the residents.

Homeowners associations are usually made up of self righteous snobs that get off on some silly power trip. I don't know how anyone could live like that.

Folsom used to be such a nice place full of nice, down to earth people. In the last few years the whole town has turned into a place that is full of snobs.

Those that had their vehicles towed may want to look at a new law passed in 2006. Check 22658 VC:

these people should just go find a nice apartment to rent and stop making mortgage payments on their condos.

I was just going to mention CVC 22658. The law was amended in 2006 to prevent "predatory towing" by tow companies. I know of an HOA in Elk Grove that has the same type of rules although not as tough. It seems like the only people who bitch about it are the ones who don't know how to follow the rules. They offer all home owners a visitor pass to hang from the rear view mirror for their guests. They can park with those passes for up to 4 days unless they have permission from the Association to park longer. You park longer than 4 days with the visitor pass and it is tagged for tow. After 3 citations the tow company is dispatched to remove the vehicle. Home owners that have 3 vehicles can apply for a 3rd vehicle permit that allows them to park outside their garage in the community. There is probably more to the rules than we know. The towing is completely legal PROVIDING the tow company has a contract with the management company. They also must have proper signage at EVERY entrance of the community advising of possible tow with the name and number of the tow company and the name and number of the local law enforcement agency. They also cannot perform private property tows outside of a 10 mile radius of their yard unless they have written permission from the local law enforcement agency. SacPD has been doing sweeps on tow companies lately to check for violations of 22658, that's all I can discuss about the sweeps at this time.

I moved out of a condo with an HOA a few years ago. I went to one meeting when they were contemplating contracting with a Dish TV provider which would have forced me to remove the dish that I currently had. There was myself and 2 other people in addition to the board members there.

There was probably no one at the meeting where they voted in this new parking policy.

If I were to ever move back to a condo, I'd be at every HOA meeting, but I hope I never do.

How unfortunate. Nowadays garages in houses are built so small that many large trucks or SUVs don't fit in them. Where is one expected to park their car if it doesn't fit in the garage? By the way there are families who have an SUV for more than just prestige...they need the seats for family members.

I always buy cars that don't fit in my garage. I mean why take the time to consider my lifestyle when picking a giant SUV.

Jen, Perhaps you did not notice the cracker box nature of the condos being talked about. Do you really think any six seven or eight person families live there?

Geez.

What happens if you use public transportation everyday, your car gets towed? You buy a condo, which includes a parking space, you expect to be able to leave your car there. Some peope may only use their car on the weekends, that is why they bought a condo, to cut down on travel time, be closer to amenities thus requiring less travel. Something to think about with buying a condo, sounds like the HOA has too much power and should be more closely monitiored, what's next-

Another thing I will add to the 22658 compliance. For "permit parking" enforcement. The tows have to be SIGNED FOR, meaning security or management has to sign for them before they can legally be removed. Some tow companies that specialize in PPT (private property towing) have a bad habit of not getting their tow tags signed.

The more I hear about HOAs, the more I think the X-Files episode ("Arcadia") about an HOA was NOT an exaggeration. If/when we get around to buying a place, one selection criterion will be NO HOA.

That's a very good point. Some of these condos go WAY overboard with their rules.

It sounds as if the entire parking lot would be emptied by towing at the end of a long weekend.

Did anyone ever stop and think the Tow Company might be giving kick backs to Property Managers or Security Guards?
Sometimes tow companies will get a stack of tow away slips signed in advance and then their drivers will go and "Patrol" your complex and then tow away at their discretion, this is Illegal and the tow company should be the one to pay.
