Unfortunately I witnessed the accident - worst thing that I have ever seen. Don't know of he was a Ramsey resident or not although I have seen him on the train before

Doesn't it seem odd that no news about this made the press?

it was an accident. He just seemed not to see the Port Jervis train coming on the other tracks.

That whole situation with the Ramsey train station, the gates that go up EVEN when a train is at the station preparing to depart, the stop light at So Central, pedestrians, kids on foot and on bikes... the sheer volume of traffic AND THE POSSIBILITIES of an Express Train on the other track has been a disaster waiting to happen. I was the 1st car at the tracks heading West towards So central a week ago. A train was in the station, heading towards Mahwah, dropping off passengers.. Anyway, the train was stopped, and the gates went up. Traffic proceeded across the tracks, even though a train was still at the station, preparing to depart...
NEVER did I even think an express could be ripping up the normally HOBOKEN bound tracks. God rest this poor man's soul and comfort his family.

I can't state anything, because I didn't witness this accident, but from what I heard it sounds like a sucide. I was over at Dater school for a Boy Scout meeting, and several people came late, claiming that they had to go through a long detour to get to Dater (which is on the other side of the tracks). I have lived in Ramsey my whole life, and I know the tracks well. From standing on Main Street, you can see and hear a train coming for 30-45 seconds to a minute in advance, and the horn on the train is honking. In addition to that, the big siignal sign lights up, the gates go down, and all the cars stop. There is no way you can miss a train coming. He must have known that the train was comingand run out into the middle of the tracks. Like I said before, I wasn't there to witness it, but that is the gut feeling that I havce from what happened.

Andrew, with all due respects.... when a train is standing it is noisy, the horn is easily be mistaken for the standing trains horn. I did not realise myself that the express was going through on the other tracks until it was right level with me and I was about 10-20 feet forward of the standing train. It was right there before you heard it. Once I heard it, my reaction was to look over and ensure noone was crossing but so sadly there was...

Don, This post is obviously from 10 years ago but, I am trying to change the situation at this station. My nephew was killed at the station this year in June - 2016. Would you be willing to speak with me?
