For the record my husband did not file the charges against Mr. Spivey. The Ramseur police department did. As Mr. Oconner stated Mr. Spivey is in his sixty's and Shane is 40. Maybe Mr. Spivey should pick on people his own age. The only reason the altercation ended when it did was because the police arrived. I'm glad Happy has one fan, even if you are related to him. Shane has many friends and family who kow the score.

When Webster's new dictionary comes out this year the new definition of "redneck" will show a picture of the ex-mayor Spivey. We hope that he will get on his motorcycle pick up his good friend SATAN and ride off into the sunset once and for all cursing and fighting all the way

I was the clerk at Quik Chek when this happen at the store. Shane and Spivey had got into it previously at the Ramseur Diner. Im not sure what about. But this time it was strictly Spiveys fault I know first hand. Shane came inside to pay for gas Spivey was already inside and saw Shane come in so he walked over to the counter where I was helping Shane and Shane said "how you doing" to Spivey and Spivey replied with "I guess were about to find out arent we" and then went outside to the parking lot and waited for Shane to come out. When Shane came outside Spivey tried kicking and punching him and shane did not try to fight back he jus pushed his leg away as he tried kicking and sheilded the punch. This is NOT the first time Happy has showed his **** at Quik Chek while I was there. A few times I had to call the cops on him as well as this time. Hes been racist to blacks and hispanics that Ive witnessed and also rude to a few customers. Hes talked about and was rude to a few overweight people as well! His temper is well out of control. Ive seen him be nice to a few and help out a few. But this attitude of his is shining far greater than any good he has done! I'm simply tired of having to deal with him at Quik Chek and tired of having to call the cops on him! I'm glad he resigned maybe now he wont think hes bad enough to show his **** every chance he gets!
WoW, he sounds like a total lunatic and I am Shocked that the entire police force has also put up with him..I agree that the SBI and maybe even the FBI should check out this town. Sounds like a bunch of corruption to me.

I love all these comments from people who don't even live in this town. But everyone keeps going on about these alleged brass knuckles. Its obvious that the police checked. It even states that the only thing found by the police was a pocket knife. Spivey has been a thorn in everyone's side for a long time, but if no one presses charges and the police have no evidence of an incident they can't charge someone. This time there was video so the police don't even need the victim to press charges. They have evidence and they charged Spivey. But none of this would even have been discussed by anyone if this was any other person and had not been on the news.

Interesting ... You all know the old statement "What goes around, comes around". Spivey has always dished out and seldom takes what comes back. He was Mayor for so long because no one wanted to run against him because of his spoiled and childish ways. Though he did do alot of things for the Town, he was a tyrant. This situation has been brewing for a while and its not the first time these two have been at it. It was overdue for him to leave this position, sad thing is theres another one following his heels. I wish the Towns people luck and the employees of the Town as well. There are alooot of good people living there and alot of good people working there. What they have had to tolerate over the years is shameful!

I am somewhat surprised that this issue continues to be of interest to so many people. Thanks to folks like Down The Street for recognizing this situation for what is it... I think there has been and still may be an atmosphere of fear from the repercussions if anything is said or done. You are also correct in your assessment of the "one following his heels", I guess time will tell what we can expect from him. I don't expect much.... People that do not live here have no idea about EVERYTHING that has gone on over the last several years and how Spivey has abused his position and the people of this town with the abusive language and racist remarks... even during the town commissioners meetings! The best thing for this town would be for him to back his bags and hit the road!!!

To Anonymous from Asheboro, you have to understand that if the police did not search Spivey, they would not find the brass knuckles. I would LOVE to see the security footage to verify this... all I can say is that unless you were actually there we can not say for sure. I hope the local paper will provide coverage of this so we can know at least what is introduced as evidence. There should have been an outside authority called when it was discovered that Spivey was involved.... As Mayor, the police were in effect investigating one of their supervisors.... This is par for the course for what has been going on in Ramseur for several years... I will say that at one time Spivey did some good for the town... but all that good has been wiped out by all the bad he has done and what he has done for the town's reputation. Thanks everyone for their concern and words of encouragement.

They are still supposed to Follow The Law..If you have some type of PROOF that they have NOT, then you SHOULD turn it over to the State and Federal Authorities. There have been towns that the Feds have actually taken control over because of corruption..New Orleans (pre-Katrina for example)..They were so corrupt that people were actually afraid to even leave their homes. But I DO believe you..I believe that the ONLY reason that he was even charged is because it was on tape. He resigned probably because the police dept demanded that he do so...or risk being charged. They had no choice if someone had the tape.

To Current Ramseur Resident, if you will read the article in the Courier Tribune, it clearly states in a statement from the police chief that the only thing found was a pocket knife. That clearly shows they searched him or they would not have known he had a pocket knife. I know several of the police officers including the investigating officers and they are professionals, regardless of who or what they are investigating. I'm sure they did everything that the law allows. The simple fact that he was charged at all shows the police did their job. We all wish the charges were more serious as Spivey deserves, but what do you do when the law only such a light charge???

To Anonymous, I DID read the article (I have kept it and re-read it several times)BUT, unless you are actually there to see the search, you do not KNOW that he was searched vigorously and completely. They did not search his truck, according to the newspaper article.

There are some professionals on the police department, but I do not know who the investigating officer was. The paper does quote Chief Brown indicating that Spivey did not have brass knuckles on his person. Is that who you are referring to? He was charged, and I like you wish the charges were more serious; and IF brass knuckles were involved, there WOULD be more serious charges. Spivey has gotten by with so many things over the last few years that most of the time are difficult to prove. If a bad attitude was a crime, he would be serving life without parole! Most people that have PROOF that these things have happened will NEVER come forward AND testify about them. You just have to LIVE here to understand completely the entire situation.

Maybe you people that are from ramseur know what you're talking about but this "story" doesn't even make sense... WHY would he pull out brass knuckles? HE'S OLD! Old people don't even know HOW to use brass knuckles, lol. I'm not saying the mayor/ex-mayor is in the right but none of this makes any sense. And to the one that said he "messed up on camera in public", well... I didn't read anything about it being on camera and if this spivey guy just jumped this other guy then the other guy COULD have kicked his **** and it would have been ok.. so why didn't he? Plus the guy really wanted to make it clear "HE DIDN'T HIT HIM BACK". Seems a little strange....
Your misinformation makes your entire post just plain silly. "Old people" as you so smugly refer to those older than you (those who surpass you in wisdom, as well as in years) certainly know how to use brass knuckles. They've been around since well before I was a child. In fact, I have a pair packed up in the attic along with some of the various itms I have from when I was young. Your IQ is typical of those who are young. It doesn't bypass your age. You seem to think you know more than anyone who has dared to live longer than you. You don't. As to your attempting to put down the people of Ranseur, you only show your ignorance. Those people who live there most definitely know more about this entire situation than you, Fox8 news, or anyone else who might be second guessing the second-hand information we've only read about.

Fox8 needs to stop reporting rumors and half-stories in an attempt to garner viewers. It needs to stick to the complete story and the facts about that story, and it needs to report nothing else. It also needs to quit sensationalizing every trivial story it can find. And you? You need to think before you comment. But then thinking is another skill many of you who over value your youth seem to have lost.

The case was continued until Oct. 27th. My understanding is this is standard procedure... just put it off until the heat dies down... then sweep it under the rug with a hand slap...
