So, they accept Bob's apology, then go back on it. Nice of them. All what, one hundred of them? Want G105 to bow to their demands? I guess they learned something from the white man. How much you want to be they'll sue next? No Casino for you!! Oh, and the "Lumbee Indians" are not native americans. Except legally, that is (do some research).

Lumbee are native American recognized by the state and not the Federal govt. The Cherokee just want all the casino money to themselves and that's all they care about. I think I know where you are going with this. There are or at least there were Cherokee who were mixed with Blacks too. They are by far more racist than Whites. If you google Black Cherokee images, you can clearly see them. Their tribal leader kicked all of them out. With Lumbee, you either are or are not. Sure you can see it in some, but they will be the last to admit it.It has become cool to be Native American as of lately and some tribes become guarded and jealous since it has been romanticized. There are many racist among the Lumbee because nobody wants the "Black" label attached to them nor did they over a hundred years ago. There were Blacks who were half White who ran away to escape from being Black as life was harder back then and it was the last thing anyone wanted for their children.

The lineage of the Lumbee tribe has been investigated by the federal government for many years, reviewing government records dating back to the 1700. The investigation proved that the Lumbee were Native American, White and African American. If they could have proved otherwise, they would have by now. I lived in an apartment complex in Columbia,SC in which we had a Lumbee family residing. My daughter became best friends with their daughter and I with the mother and father. They first appear to be Islander people, so I feel they could have a large African American presents in their blood. Now if they want to prove their lineage they should take one of the new DNA test. That will settle it, but I bet you won't have many takers. They know they have more Black lineage than what the would like to admit and that is just what the federal government has found out.

It's my understanding that Native American mix within the Lumbee tribe came from the Croatans that migrated away from the coast on NC and settled around Lumberton. They intermarried with white and african settlers

it is easy to take offense to people who write in and say are the lumbee people part white/ black/ mixed indian tribes, etc. i grew up as a lumbee indian, proudly proclaiming being an indian, for 56 yrs. my mom went to an all croatan indian school as a child. she was discriminated against for being an indian, but was always pround of her heritage. in the south, those who had power put the lumbees whereever they wanted us to be to serve their cause. i am ever ready to do DNA testing to prove what i already know, that i am indian and proud of it. i worked hard, educated myself, had a brother and a cousin die in vietnam and find it hard to believe that there is still such ignorance in the country and obviously down ritght hatred . its important to be for us to have tribal recognition for my people because we have survived for many years, yes, living as indians, and no, we didnt do it being lazy or through stupidity. remember when you accuse indians on reservations of nasty things, who put them there. Lumbee Indian and proud of it!(pennsylvania)also, i am sure there are some lumbees who intermarried with blacks, just as have many whites. that was and is thier choice,,, everyone should probably check their DNA. sic...(example, Thomas Jefferson).

The article on the Lumbees at Wikipedia < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumbee> ; clearly shows that their supposed origins to the Coatian Indians has been rejected because of DNA evidence, genealogical research, and anthropological stuties since the early 1900s.

Most of the issues, especially in support of their being identified with Native American origins, are political, financial and emotional in nature, rather than evidence-based.

I grew up in Lake View S.C. but I was very close with my grandparents who lived in Fairmont NC. My Grandmother was fullblooded Lumbee and my grandfather was Lumbee and white. I take pride in my culture and I have done my research. We as a people have mixed with other races but so do whites and everyone else. People who want to run their mouth and make racist comments can shut up. As for bubba you can just kiss my ***.

Tuscarora group questions Lumbee recognition
Thursday, May 1, 2008

A group called the Tuscarora of North Carolina says the Lumbee Tribe doesn't deserve federal recognition.

The Tuscaroras say the Lumbees are stealing their heritage. But the Lumbees say the Tuscaroras are a splinter group within the Lumbee Tribe

My heart hurts. As mad as I have gotten, I cant change peoples beliefs. This is not the first time this has happened. Actually, I was walking around oblivious, but thanks to this SMACK-IN-THE-FACE, I am back. My guard is up--take it as you wish!
