I'm interested in paranormal activity, have only lived in Radford for about a year. People who have lived in an area all their lives tend to know all the local stories. Anyone know of a place, or have you had an experience with a ghost?

The only place that I know of right off, is the old Ingles place. It's located on the West/End side of radford, just up from the river. I believe the owners name was Laura Ingles; her grave is located in the 5th or 6th street (I forget which one) graveyard (also in West/End). It is pretty much the biggest gravestone out there I believe. It comes to a high peak at the top. Anyways, I cant remember the exact color of the house, I just remember as a kid it spooked the *@#! out of me. Some friends and I rode by it one night, like around 8 - 9pm; there were no cars parked out front, no nothing, but in one of the highest windows on the place, a light came on, and there appeared to be a female standing there looking back at us. After we all deficated on ourselves, we sped off and never went back. I have heard of various stories of her walking around outside the place and what not. If you go, take a friend or 5. Let me know if you go by there and see anything. If I think of any place else, I will post a note here. Talk to you later.

Actually her name was Mary Draper Ingles (Laura Ingles Wilder did "Little House on the Prairie") and the house was built by Mary Ingles' grandson.

Also I do not think she is buried in the cemetary in Radford, the tall monument in the center of the graveyard is just a memorial

Her name is Mary Ingels Draper. She was kidnapped by indains and taken to Ohio. she found her way back home in the middle of the winter and survived on nuts and berries. The long way home theater used to do a reinactment every summer but has now stoped and is closed down. Such a shame to loose such a big part of the history. I myself have been in the house on a number of occasions and I don't feel there is any thing to be afraid of!

The Ingles house is pretty interesting. There's an interesting story about a mirror associated with the house but it's hardly paranormal. Just interesting. According to their website, the image of a visitor and her pet cat was burned into the glass of the mirror by a really close bolt of lightning that hit near the window during a storm shortly after the house was built.

There's quite an informative entry at http://www.strangeusa.com/Viewlocation.aspx... that contains some photos of that monument in the cemetery. This particular monument and group of graves are located in the West View Cemetery. If you google satellite the corner of Pendleton and 5th street, you will be able to see the monument in the cemetery.

The Ingles Castle is now known as La Riviere and can be toured for a price.

Another very interesting site in Radford that is now open to the public and is KNOWN to be haunted is The King Center (Old St. Albans) where they currently have an organization attempting to save the building and preserve it. They actually conduct ghost hunts there that are pretty interesting. You can learn more about this one on Facebook. They have a very active page there.https://www.facebook.com /pages/St-Albans-Sanatorium/22 7599350608608
