Doc, you need to wait for responses from me. I have a life outside the Kenosha Forum unlike you.
The subject of this particular forum is whether or not Kenosha is a ghetto city, not what or how I make a living. I can tell you this..........after I graduated from Bradford High School in 1960 I immediately went to work at American Motors where I "wasted" 7 years of my life. I left Kenosha for good in 1970 and damned glad I did. I went on to college at Barat in Lake Forest where I received a BA in Secondary Ed, received my MA in Education 2 years later, and taught English for 27 years before retiring just 2 years ago with a $4800 a month pension for life. None of this would have happened had I not removed myself from the underachieving, blue collar mentality of the friends and neighbors I was around my early years in Kenosha.I would never consider returning to Kenosha, nor would I want to raise children there.
I now live a comfortable life in Vernon Hills, just 26 miles away from Kenosha yet its a million miles ahead of them in every regard. Enjoy your miserable day pal!

Congradulations, mr smarty pance, , you have no idea what is going on in the economy of USA at the moment, just because u r doing well , seems like u have the attitude, f every body else. This country has guttted jobs and driven wages down because of looking the other way on immigration. Having achieved great success in your life does not erase what has happened in the UsA, it is NOT just kenosha. How are the property values in vernon hills, an lake forest doing by the way, down at least 30 %. So all is well in the US, because you have done well for your self. Besides what atone you have of being better, go back to school an learn some manners.

When I was learning how to drive, we called them FIDs, with the D standing for "driver". If I hadn't seen it happening with for real IL driver's education vehicles, I would have never been that prejudicial about upstanding IL. folks. We're all riding on the same planet, for what that's worth.

JFR, I find your comments hilarious since they are spoken by someone living in the state ranked #1 in the USA for DUI's. Call us what you want, be it FID's or the more common phrase I have heard used FIB's, but I'd much rather be around an Illinois driver than a Wisconsin driver.

Doc, my property value has declined just like they have everywhere. They should decline because the housing bubble made them higher than they should have been anyway. Who is hurt by the decline in values?? Only the idiots who used their home as an ATM piggybank to pull money out of and buy the SUV they didn't need or take the ridiculous vacation they didn't need. Now they lose their job and they can't sell their house because they owe more on it than they can get so they just walk away and leave it in foreclosure. I should feel sorry for them??? hah!!

As for the jobs that have been gutted and the effect of immigration on driving down wages, don't blame me. You can thank the free trade aggreements that allow China to manufacture every damn thing I have bought the last 5 years, yet China makes it virtually impossible for an American to sell their product in China.
I don't say "f everybody else", but I don't lose sleep because others are struggling. I spent over $30,000 to become a teacher because I felt it would be a job that would always be in demand and I was right.I volunteer at the local Food Bank, I donate a tidy sum to local charities, and I have provided a nice nest egg for my children when I pass on.
So direct your nastiness at someone else, you almost sound jealous. Such a pathetic trait.Grow up and start attacking the politicians and bankers that created this mess..........certainly not me.

It is u that is atttacking with your attitude of, I am doing well an every one else who hasn't is an idiot. Your view of the housing bubble is over simplified also. Homes may have been over valued,, but now are selling at half price because of all the foreclosures. If you need to sell your home it is almost impossible to sell unless you sell it for almost 50% of what the home would cost to rebuild. The buyers just are not out there, people in there 20s an 30s just have not been able to save becauuse of the drastic reduction in wages. They do not have the 20% down for the new stricter mortgage guides. This country iis in a mess. Not every one can be a teacher an not every one can get a college degree, which by the way does not mean much at the current economic trends. We still need factory an blue collar jobs. The theory of the US being a service economy has burst the bubble.

PS , I have no jelousy towards u what so ever. The anger I have is at the huge corporations that have taken over our country and made havoc of the housing an job industry here in the USA. Once again ,not just a kenosha thing, this is nation wide.

I just moved into Kenosha this week for new employment. I found a very nice apartment at Stationside Village, right next to the Metra.(essentially the corner of 52nd street and Sheridan I notice that of my surrounding area, due south is the museums and South East is Frank's diner and some signs of life in the otherwise vacant downtown. To the west you have Tenuda's and some older neighborhoods south of that. I realize every town has their rough patches. I just don't want to make a wrong turn and get into trouble. Any advice on where I should steer clear, where to go?

my god, they actually have jobs in Kenosha now?? Can't advise you since I moved from kenosha 40 years ago. All I can say is back then, rough patches were mostly around the 13th ave and 52nd st and 60th st and 14th. I am sure the rough patches have changed or moved to another area.

Kenosha isn't a ghetto city. As with most places throughout our fine country, there are good & bad neighborhoods. We do have a lot to offer...the lakefront, museums, parks, etc. Could our city use some help? Yes, but there are far worse places to be living that are true ghettos. No location is perfect...people will always find something to complain about.

oh hello dave mr smarty pance. I tend to think that the economy we have is unsustainable and can not continue the world id do for a correction. Read , Natural Capitalism, a book on how we have jus had a couple hundred years of industrial revolution and how we need a new revolution . A theory that goods produced by a manufacturer has to be recycled and disposed of by tfhe same manufacturer. It explaines that in outf current system we do not take into account the value of natural recources . What does this have to do with kenosha..??? Jobs which is what determines a ghetto town orr not a ghetto town. I really feel that our current economy or at least the model we have will collapse ord the earth will collapse, take your choice. This goes beyond kenosha an includes kenosha. Read the book and let me know what you think about it?

If you choose to attend Carthage keep in mind you will be in the company of numerous "cheeseheads", and the blue-collar, 6-pack mentality that comes with them. I can't think of a worse place for an LA guy or gal than Kenosha, a dim-witted truck stop for humanity.
