The Baptism of John. What was it, and who was it for?

Seriously, you CoC people worship water baptism.

W if you would step out from behind your disdain for members of the coC you might see things in a different light. Hatred has a way of blinding a person, kinda like love blinds the one in love.

But you asked a serious question so I will try to answer it.

I have used Johns water baptism (Jn 3:23) to prove it was an immersion in water and it also was to forgive sins according to (Mark 1:4). No doubt it was for the Jews according to (Mt. 3:1,5,6).

1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

W, we do not place as much emphasis on water immersion as denominational people say we do, that is for sure. But we do place "in the water" as the time the Lord moves the sinner from one state (lost) to another state (saved). Note (Acts 22:16)(Heb. 10:22)(Titus 3:5)
(Rom. 6;3-6)

If you believed that the line of demarcation between being lost and saved would you not yell it from on top of the houses so you could get many more people to go to heaven with you?

It is the Lord who placed the blessing in the water w.

7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam,(which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.(Jn 9:1-7)

14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.(2Kings 5:14)

Believe + Baptism = Saved -->(Mark 16:15,16)

Mark 16:17-18

King James Version (KJV)

17 And these signs SHALL follow them that believe; In my name SHALL they cast out devils; they SHALL speak with new tongues;

18 They SHALL take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it SHALL not hurt them; they SHALL lay hands on the sick, and they SHALL recover.

Now, since you openly proclaim to be carrying out this Great Commission, you will have no trouble demonstrating that you can do any of these things, right?

Instead of "Creed Books" the Church of Christ uses creed websites. Guess they really aren't a "Bible Only" demomination, as they proudly proclaim.

Looks like he is selling creed-related materials.

Can people not learn what is in the Bible from reading the Bible?

Q: Why didn't Christ tell the 11 in Mark 16 to go tell the world that he died FOR people's sins, like he gave to Paul. And if he did tell them that, WHY did Christ feel the need to go and get Paul?
I found another place that uses the word gospel.

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

We must not forget (Mark 16:15,16) is called the gospel.

The very same Holy Spirit which called (1Cor.15:4ff) the gospel also called the information found in (Mark 16:15,16) the gospel.

Are you going to pick and choose what you want to obey or are you going to accept "all things" the Lord commanded?

...Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
As he preaches Christ to Cornelius and his company

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.(Acts 10:33-35)

...he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (Heb. 5:9)

46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?(Luke 6:46)

"We must not forget (Mark 16:15,16) is called the gospel."

It is a gospel alright.

But he never told the 11 to go out and preach that he died for people's sins, was buried, and resurrected for their justification. Rather important, wouldn't you say?

THAT gospel he gave to Paul, and that is our gospel for today. We will be judged by that gospel, as Romans 2:16 says.

I noticed you said it is "a" gospel referring to (Mark 16:15,16).

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Notice the above verse says -

15...."preach the gospel to every creature"

Did you notice that word "THE" in verse 15?

What gospel was to be preached "to every creature"?

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

16. Believe + Baptism = Saved

Now for what the apostles was either told or should have known.

Jesus told them -

44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.(Luke 24:44-48).

Christ to suffer,

and to rise from the dead

the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins

should be preached

in his name

among all nations,

beginning at Jerusalem.

24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.(Jn 8:24)

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities:...(Isa. 53:5)

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.(Isa. 53:6)

...for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.(Isa.53:8)

10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin,...(Isa. 53:10)

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.(Isa. 53:10,11)

He said some other things to them in 16-20 too. But nobody who lives and dies by the so-called "great commission" likes to tell people about those.

You are diverting minds from (Mark 16:15,16) and If I were you I probably would do the same b/c this one verse is devastating to your position spiritually speaking.

You claim during the first century there were two gospels instead of one.

1. One Gospel for the Gentiles

2. Another Gospel for the Jews

In the first century they were commanded to take "THE" gospel to "all the world" and "every creature".(Mark 16:15,16)

You deny what (Mark 16:15,16) teaches.

If this one gospel was to go to "every creature" and "all the world" there is no reason to have "ANOTHER" gospel.

In fact "another gospel" besides the "one gospel" is wrong according to (Gal. 1:6-9). It will damn many to hell (Jn 12:48)(Jn 17:20,21)(Luke 6:46).

This would include all the denominations which are in fact teaching "another gospel" than what is taught in the bible (faith "alone").

Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

***

There is no "sinners prayer" which one can say to be saved today.

Which btw would negate the faith "alone" position b/c speaking a prayer is "doing something" (action).

Not to mention an "altar" in worship today.

Speak about cults and being brainwashed!!!

(Jn 9:31)- Joh 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

No one was taught they could be saved by faith "alone" in the NT.

Let's see what God says -

(James 2:17-24)

Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Jas 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Jas 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Jas 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Jas 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Jas 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
