They can't be too stupid to figure out how to beat the average worker out of over 15 thousand dollars, take insurance coverage from their checks, but have no medical coverage, take ss out of the checks but no record of ss payments on record and stiff many companies with millions of debt and walk away with zero accountability after federal bankruptcy hearings. Then the same creep comes back in a few years and startsit all over again. The rank and file coal miners out there are just trying to support their family, do an honest and hard shift or double. These workers don't call in sick for anything short of surgery and that is only if the doctor won't release them. The people (crooks) running the operation have an agenda and it has nothing to do with the miners or the county. They will get in, get as much money as possible and get out without regard to the people working for them or the people they owe money and you can be assured their assets will be safe and tidy. I agree with S1p2m3 that it is a disaster waiting to happen. The workers, many newly trained and without a lot of experience are only trying hard to keep their job and support their families. The company knows this and slips many shortcuts in that the older, experienced miner would have called them on. They pay off inspectors, pollute the beautiful stream that used to be world class trout fishing into a lifeless dribble of sludge. Where is MSHA or the inspectors to protect or workers and environment??It is a sad but repeated story of life at Anjean, WV.
Do not count on the WVDEP to protect the people or the environment .. I have had battles with them for a lot of years & have lost even when I had proof of coal company wrong doing.

I so agree with you. Sounds like you've had experience with the whole industry and know what I tried, maybe not so well to express. The miners get a bad rep when they are trying to work and support themselves and families. Corrupt companies easily find the corrupt people that are employed to safeguard the exact issues they conviently overlook. It is a bad situation and I hope this particular one will end with only loss of jobs, benefits and income and ruination of our beautiful area, as opposed to LIFE. Thanks for your comment.Sounds like you've been there and done that! I'm not nor ever was a coal miner, but know the area and the inside story of their history. Too bad history does repeat itself as the old adage goes.

Been part of all aspects of the coal biz since bout 1970, in your area alone I've had dealings with Greenbrier Coal, Joe Turley, Fred Taylor & Midland Trail just to name a few. Due to the current political policies that favor coal operators, WVDEP inspectors are required to write " minimal " amount of violations instead of properly writing all violations that they see .. That kinda slipped out of an inspector during moment of anger in front of witnesses. So go figger ...

Really refreshing to have a candid opinion from someone that has been involved and knows the business. My opinions are only based on reports made public and knowing people affected directly. Thanks for your input. I think you are spot on!!

The only way he could come back if he put up a front company,(West Virginia mine power) to run everything through none of the permits or anything is in his name, they are all in John Preece's who is a fool for letting him do it, when it's time for joe to pack up and leave, Preece's is going to be left there hanging for everything, which I thik will be funny to see them all fall flat on their face. The strips are under contract with other equipment owners who struggle to get payments from them, I don't know how many times Greer and v&g threaten to pull their equipment off the hill if they didn't get paid. I can tell you stuff that is absolutely unbelievable in what they have did there. Devious operator tactics, I think that was the quote from MHSA said it best.

they are buying coal from South Fork on up the road at anjean, they cant mine coal if it was in an 100 mile wide open pit!! they are small time operators who only looked to get paid themselves and screw everything else, i for one will be glad when they pack up and leave this state, I think when MSHA takes them to court for the back fines it will over then. the safety director can only lie so much to MSHA and beg and plead to lower the fines, thats the only reason Turley keeps him and his worthless lazy son there. he sure in the hell hasnt did anything safety wise up there. only come to them mines and talk about football, and the MSHA- Obama conspiracy.

you must be chris s or a boss that got layed off for sleeping behind a curtain half the shift. I just love all the hating you people are putting out makes me laugh but yea that place is sooo unsafe just look at all the deaths and serious injuries they have had. The only thing that pisses me off is how they give some people gas cards and others nothing i want a job at that shop so i can sleep all night and get a 30dollar gas card for waking up before the next shift walks in lmao...

Blue Ridge, I gotta say, just by reading your tag line,UMWA tree hugger, that tells me your outta work or looking to be. But, then again, that's why UMWA PUSHED OBAMA. What a damned contradiction!! You are for "coal miners" but supported a "Candidate" that wanted to "Bankrupt" the industry that your "members" are in! But, isn't that where your "dues", I mean "revenue" comes from? So, with that said, How freaking retarded are you and your "members"?(no offense meant to the naturally born people afflicted with retardation)
I guess, maybe, that could be blame on the lack of oxygen while you were napping underground.
