What will treat repeated tonsil infection?

Full story: The Star-Ledger

My 11-year-old daughter has had four tonsil infections over the past year. Each time, antibiotics have helped her to get better, but the infections return.

My son had his tonsils removed a few years ago, he is now 9 and this past sunday was the first time in two years he needed to go see a doctor since the removal. Not only did it help with infections but his appetite was improved (he had swollen tonsils all the time) and he doesn't get sick as often as my other two children.

Last year my husband had his tonsils removed and his health has improved marginally. It tends to be a painful procedure to recover from, but the younger you have them removed the less painful. This is usually due to the size of the tonsils, and small children tend not to remember the pain later on. I guess the idea of getting to eat popsicles and pudding for every meal is also appealing to a child. Our niece had her tonsils removed when she was three due to tonsilitis and not only did her health improve, but her appetite has also improved. Good luck.

This year, I had tonsils infections about 3 times and every time I have fever and get really tired.
Do my tonsils need to be removed?
If yes is there an alternative solution?

Amoxocillin ( http://www.originaldrugs.com/amoxicillin.shtm... ) is quite effective antibiotic for tonsil and throat infections. However, sometimes children need time to overgrow susceptibility to such infections and the frequency of infections subsides as a child grows up.

I have a 13 year old daughter and recently I found out that her tonsil is getting bigger, she is sick and had fever once in a while. She told me that evening that her left side of the tonsil is a little hurt and really it was quite big. I will bring to see her pediatrician and do you think she needs to remove her tonsil? Infact she does not have any symptoms. Please respond.

i am currently suffering from a severe tonsil infection. this sickness has a number of detrimental effects that i find hard to withstand.i havent been sleeping for 3 consecutive days due to the pain. it also prevents me from breathing, hearing, and thinking properly. my temperature has reached 39'c.not to mention i havent eaten anything for the past 4 days; i only inserted plenty of liquid.i was unable to communicate to anyone regarding my situation because any attempt of talking will cost me another pain.what should i do to alleviate this situation? should i have it removed? your response is f a great importance. much appreciated. thx

The bad news: The only true remedy is removal. You can get thru most early stages of tonsilitis with antibiotics and pain killers but not for long and reoccurance will get closer and worse as you age in most instances.

The good news: After about age 60, the number of instances will diminish. Very few geriatric patients have trouble with their tonsils. Also, when you die, you won't be troubled anymore.
In other words GET THEM OUT, NOW.

I've been getting tonsillitis for the last 9 years, I'm now 24. Every time that I get a cold or a bug, my tonsils will inevitably become infected. The only time I can remember them not becoming infected was when I was on a course of penicillin for acne. I'd suggest keeping penicillin around and take them at the first sign of your tonsils becoming infected.

I had the problem and removal helped, but I have had an inordinate number of infections and colds ever since

I have had great results using Aspergum. My son is now faced with the recurrence of this pox. Hee has had good, but temporary, results with Ampicillin and with Listerine as well as very warm salty water gargles.

I wish you good luck with the problem.
