This council will do what it wants to do, not even all the facts will change their minds. Fact, consent decree form sham recycling nerve gases. Fact, whistle blower report explaining very clearly Asarco/Encycle was sending nerve gases to El Paso. Fact, 10 unlined unprotected waste sites and possibly one more waste site(asbestos buried). Are our future children and grandchildren going to be another LOVE CANEL? This city scares me its almost communist.

Cleaning up the site is the responsible thing to do. Wasn't Robsinson the guy who was driving around town without a license? What is he doing making decisions that involve peoples' lives? SmartCode: Good Choice!

This is exactly what I feared O'Rourke would do. As he is no longer running in any capacity he should leave this up to the New City Council and out of the hands of Susie Byrd and the sleeping old lady in charge of pillows. There should not have been a vote without the other members present. Can you arrest him for hijacking the council.?

This land is not cleaned up properly and it it unknown if it can even be re-mediated. IF it can't, then the EPA and the TECQ need to make sure that there is no one exposed to the problems unlike LOVE canal in New York.

No one is ever going to get financing for purchasing or developing this polluted property and especially now that the council has required mixed uses be developed there. This is just arrogance of this council trying to rush this rezoning before the election Saturday and that is shameful. This Smart Code zoning will dramatically lower the sale proceeds possible for this land because there will be very limited potential for bidding competition and those proceeds are for us the citizens. Council is playing with our rights to achieve the higgest possible value for this land. Shame, shame on them.

You don't get it. They are NOT CLEANING UP THE SITE. It is all smoke and mirrors.

They rezoned the land next to it with smartcode and several years later they had it sold, bulldozed and plan to build senior retirement homes, apt. buildings, schools etc. They think that the only chemical to worry about is Lead (Pb) and have no understanding AND NO INTENTION OF CLEANING UP anything else.

City Hall should move there to prove it's safe. Those idiots think that by labeling something as "smart" it becomes "safe". Bola de pendejos!!!

Just think of it having all the parking spaces and places inside to go in the NEW CITY COUNCIL if it were built on the site. They literally could see into Mexico and New Mexico and take city government to new heights. Put the Municipal courts there along with the fire department head quarters maintenance section. No need to have anyone else there. Free parking, spacious additional room to add to the city building at anytime. The area between Interstate 10 west and north of UTEP could be filled in and new high rise apartments and a large bike track.
