Another good article from Joe. My favorite quote on the topic: Situation- obnoxious private cell caller wandering aimlessly and talking loudly in a public place. "Excuse me, your private is interrupting my public"

I am surprised that the city has come up with the idea of taxing people an extra ten cents a minute while talking on the cell phones. This would get people off the cell phones, even those on unlimited plans would have to pay the City of El Paso an extra ten cents a minute.

They are used everywhere and their stupid ring tones that everybody has to hear are played everywhere and when I say everywhere. I was in the public restroom the other day and their way a person talking business on his cell phone while sitting on the toliet. I wonder he washes his cell phone also after using the bathroom. Wasnt it a better world before cell phones??

Where I work the receptionist has a 'hands free" so that she can type on the computer or manipulate the call director ithout having to hold the nasty old headset. It also allows her to dash into the file room or restroom when the call is personal. I often hear her telling her creditors her latest batch of excuses as to why she can't pay her bill. My favorite recent one is that she had been off for emergency surgery and was not paid for 4 weeks which is not true. The manager has finally awoken and checks the call ID whenever the girl rushes out of the office. I am sure it won't be too long before a reprimand will be coming perhaps a termination of job or hands free headset.

Too bad Ms. Q didn't come up with the idea. She stole it. Grand standing is a common theme for politicians.

Joe - great article except for giving Rep. Quintana credit for the idea. Read your own paper and editorials and such - it wasn't her idea - it came from EPPD.

I think cell phone use in automobiles should be banned period not just in school zones. One day I was shopping in WalMart using one of their electrc carts and there was this lady on her cell phone; she almost ran into me twice.

Ms. Quintana should be voted El Paso Citizen of the year for having such a bright idea. Now I know why she was voted into Office. She's a genius and a thief.

How many dead there there have to be before we stop this madness. It is not your right to kill somebody just because you want to text or talk on a cell phone, when you are supposed to be driving a 4,00lb or more vehicle.

Just like it is not your right to be shooting your gun while talking on a phone and doing anything else that requires your full attention. Anybody that is so stupid to be on a cell when driving and somebody gets killed, should be charged with 2nd degree murder - period.

I like the idea of the city/school districts/PSB taxing people on cell phones. I am surprised they have not thought of this yet.

Maybe then the CAD can ease up on us property owners. We sure are blessed in El Paso, to be maybe one one of a very few cities in the country with rising property values. We are either blessed or being sc*ewed by CAD people that are playing with the numbers.

How about an FBI invstigation into the fraud the CAD is pulling on the propery owners of the city.

Cell phones are the main reason I:

-- Quit going to movie theaters

-- Only eat out once a month (the rest is takeout)

-- Have nearly been clobbered a few dozen times by drivers not paying full attention to their driving

-- Quit going to all live performances

-- Quit going to bookstores and libraries

Danged if I can understand why people think they have a constitutional right to use the things anytime, anywhere.

I'm convinced all eating establishments should start having "Cell Phone" and "Non-cell Phone" seating areas.

If folks would start using cell phones appropriately -- for emergencies only, which is why they originally were invented -- I could die a happy man.

Since I don't have/use the thing, is it true that if someone sends you a text message, YOU get charged for it?

Meanwhile, I'm checking out cell phone jamming devices. They're illegal in the U.S.(like radar detectors are illegal), but are available for order from Europe ....

I'm not against cell phones but I am against cell phones when used by a driver or where those using the phone are causing a problem for those around them. I've been run off the road by a person talking on a cell phone, and she kept talking on the phone as she sped on. I like the idea that restaurants have cell phone and non-cell phone areas. I think a lot of problems could be eliminated if would just pull off the road to talk or tell the caller, I'll call you back and hang up. Also go elsewhere to answer your call if others are in your vicinity. Have you ever been with several people where one of them keeps getting a phone call and everyone has to shut up while they talk on the phone?
