The Republicans were in control up to 2006, and they have continued to be in control, because the chickencrats have done little to thwart the Executive powers of our mumbling Liar-in-Chief. It is under the George W. Bush administration with a Republican majority that has passed virtually everything that Bush wanted...and if he did not approve or accept new Congressional amendments and laws, he executed them with Signing Statements that would permit him to ignore them.
It was a demented and deceitful Decider who ignored at his Crawford ranch the Memorandum-Warning about impending attacks WITH AIRPLANES; it was this denying Decider who willingly and falsely asserted that Iraq had Uranium "cake" when it did not.
George W. Bush took America to war. He and his CON-MEN and CON-WOMEN extracted and cherry-picked data that they wanted---propaganda that they chose to catapult over and over---in order to give us their dirty, dastardly, and deadly war. They had the American people and Congress---the world---convinced that Saddam Hussein was an "imminent threat". Yes, Congress approved a law that allowed Bush to bomb Iraq, but that approval was made based on fabrication---but it still Mr. Bush who TOOK US TO WAR.
Here are some actual facts from the recently released Bush Administration's final Mid-Session Review of the budget. It isn't any party's line.
• Current Administration will leave the nation with largest deficit in history — The
Administration’s 2009 budget will leave the country with a $482 billion deficit, trumping
its previous $413 billion record set in 2004.
• Debt balloons under Administration policies — Since the President took office in 2001,
the debt held by the public has swelled by $2.0 trillion, an increase of 59 percent – with
most of it financed by foreign investors.
• Economic growth is anemic — GDP grew just 1.9 percent in the second quarter of 2008
– mainly because of the economic stimulus Congress passed. This follows growth of just
0.9 percent in the first quarter of 2008 and revised negative growth (a contraction) of -0.2
percent in the last quarter of 2007, fueling the argument that we are already in a
• Thousands of jobs lost — Private payrolls have lost 578,000 jobs since December. To
date, this Administration has created just 58,000 new jobs per month on average
compared with 237,000 per month under President Clinton.
• Household incomes have fallen — Real median household income has decreased by
almost $1,000 under President Bush. During the Clinton Administration, real median
household income rose by $6,000, or 14.0 percent.
The President’s fiscal policies impose heavy debt burden on America’s families — The
$2.0 trillion added to the public debt under this Administration equates to $26,000 in
additional federal debt for every family of four in the U.S.– far more than most families
have received in tax cuts.

Are you talking about the same Ms. Quintana that is under investigation? Her actions do speak louder than words!
#3 Sep 18, 2008
what investigation ? the one susie byrd made up.
#4 Sep 18, 2008
Yes, and sustained by the Suerken supporters, including this newspaper. I've often thought after reading articles that this newspaper is really upset that the people decided to elect Ms. Quintana in spite of its support for her opponent. It's on a crusade against her. I think it's quite obvious. A pretense of objectivity is not needed. Some people are on to you, EP Times. Can't fool all of the people all of the time.

The only thing that is "quite obvious" is that Rachel Quintana is the worst rep. on City Council.

When you have GOP guru, and adviser extraordinaire, Karl Rove, come out and explicitly say that Palin was a, quote, "political choice", and that she is clearly clueless, and without foreign policy experience, this should speak volumes about her and McCain's claims to the contrary!
McCain a maverick, straight talk? Where's he been the past twenty five years to take on the, "Wall Street tough guys", as he now calls them, for political expediency?
Just only Tuesday morning, one day before the AIG bailout by the the Bush admin. he said that he was, "oppossed", to the government bailout, and the very next day he praised the baiout!
Is this the flip flopper you want, one that protetcts big business, and his Wall Street fat cat cronies, one that speaks through both sides of his mouth?
Meanwhile we are losing our homes, our incomes are declining, people losing their jobs because of the financial crisis that MCain and fellow leech, Phil Gramm worked on together to protect the financiers by passing legislation to protect them? And now McCain says that he will regulate, when for the past twenty six years he's been against regulation?
Oh, please spare me the empty rhetoric, and bold face lies, McCain!!
Do you want these liars running our country in these crucial times?
I think not!

GOP senator Chuck Hagel, GOP political strategist Karl Rove, McCain's GOP Political adviser, Carly Fiorina, and other GOP
bigs are now telling us what we had already figured out on our own, that McCain and Palin are not qualified to lead our country! That McCain's veep pick was quote, "a political choice", to appease, and pander to the republican right wing base that clearly didn't even want McCain as their presidential choice!
This coming straight from the republican horse's mouth!
Besides McCain and Palin continue to lie, lie lie and they are under the mistaken assumption that we believe their bilge, and filthy lies!
How wrong they are! They'll find out just how wrong they were come November!

Regarding naming a street after "The Bear", just drive around the East side, and you'll find it - and it has been there a while.
