Full story: El Paso Times

Progressive was adopted by socialists years ago. That is a fact, do the research.

Government entities are socialism, that is a bit of a stretch. Those entities are a necessity to govern and civilzation. Tribes developed primitive versions to ensure their survival and order, not politics.

The people getting benefits are not married. We are not talking about people who are gay- we know they cannot get married. I would not oppose those who want to get married but can't to have benefits. However, why should unmarried people who choose not to get married- probably to avoid paying hire income taxes- why should they be entitled to benefits? Also, why is the out of control on spending City Council extending benefits when we have no money. It is not the time because you decided to now fix the 30 years of problems in flooding in two years so you raised our taxes. You also want to fix the whole downtown and raise our taxes. You give the developers big breaks like Paul Foster and his new mall and you give all developers big breaks. But I have to pay $74 for a permit. These people are out of control on spending. By the way, I am a liberal Democrat. If I think this City Council is out of control, then they definatel are out of control. They are progressives except when it comes to the PSB and the groups they get money from. We need new blood with better ideas.

How can you be against anyone having decent health benefits and call yourself a Christian? Everyone deserves the right to live. Everyone deserves the right to health care, no matter who you are: fundamentalist right-wing Tea Bagger or Progressive liberal, straight or gay; every human being deserves the right to see a doctor or go to the hospital if he or she is sick.
This is a fundamental right that all human beings have. Under the eyes of God.
The question is: How do we pay for it? Tea baggers want to take away health services and benefits from the poor, the children, the elderly, and the disabled.
Progressives want to tax the richest of the rich. Billionaires who make 17 billion dollars a year in profits, like the huge conglomerate GE, which paid zero dollars in taxes last year (2010), yet made billions of dollars in profits and was even kicked-back 3 billion dollars by the American tax payers.
Why does this argument always fall on deaf ears: Tax the rich, and give to the poor. It is the way out of the deficit; it is how you pay for education, for police services, for fixing the infrastructure, and for paying for basic services that the majority of Americans want, such as health care for all.
But we do not want to raise taxes on the rich. Because it is Un-American and Socialist. But the rich are not our friends. They are the cause of our financial problems and ruin since they take so much from the economy and do not give back to society. They are the predators, we the common man are their prey. It is like chickens defending the right of the fox to come in and devour hens, little chicks, and eggs. We are the sheep defending the wolf and his right to screw us with impunity.
Are we as a people that dumb? Are we as a society, as a collective consciousness, that stupid? I believe that one day we will wake up; and so I continue with my harangues.
But the small-time pimps who keep defending the billionaires and who work to perpetuate the myth and the propaganda that responsible tax revenue is socialism and a bad thing--they will surely pay for their criminal dishonesty.

I like Abe also. He may or may not win this go around but he needs to be encouraged to stay in the fight as he can one day be a strong representative.

Obviously, then, Richard is NOT a candidate...

Time to elect a few people that do "have a clue".

Good, because a person with your IQ should stick to things you can comprehend. That would limit you to watching nicklodeon and Beavis and Butthead re-runs, and I'm sure you'll need a coach to explain that too.

No ones denying you the opportunity for health benefits, it just isn't a right. If you want the best benefits then you have the right to purchase those benefits like everyone else. Or you have the right to accept whatever is provided. You don't have a right to steal from the pockets of those of us who work while you sit on your freeloading behind making demands that are paid for by our labor.

Abe, stop posting here. No one is ignorant enough to vote for you. You did not do well at the forum. You have no clue what is going on in local government. You need to do a lot of growing up. You may be of age but you are very immature and clueless.

No one needs to run down to city hall, open only four days a week and yet preserving their five day per week pay, to first deliver to them a 72.50 permit fee so as to allow you to repair a plumbing leak that is flooding your home or has you without water! The unbelievable mindset at city hall! Vote for Abe Peinado, he gets it!.
You are either Abe or one of his idiot drunk friends. City Hall is open 4 days a week for TEN hours a day. That equals 40 hours. They offer remedial math at El Paso Community College. You should register. And you are as uninformed as Abe. The permit fee was waived. Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Most of what is on the agenda is economical in nature. I don't necessarily agree with some of the candidates but when you extend benefits to those who can get married and refuse to do so then they should not have those benefits and to those who can't get married as the State Of Texas does not recognize same sex marriage, they lived together for years and had their health taken care of by their partners or themselves before the city council ever acted. We don't Need art at the ports of entry or the interstate bridges painted or dyed or whatever they do to make them different colors these days. We don't need to supply the city council with cell phones just give them beepers in case of emergencies. They don't need any car allowances and neither does any of the City managers office workers or yes men. I would think the New City council when it comes to office in July will reverse some of the progressive attitudes, get rid of the city manager and take the El Paso Water Utilities back under their control as a city department and pay the CEO no more than $200,000.00 per year. IT is time that the fluff be discarded. The inspections department needs to be revamped and new blood put in with an outlook to the customers and not the city's wallet. Tighten codes for plumbing and disallow use to PVC pipes in the interior of the home, require the builders that all pipes be insulated. Every house built should be to tougher standard to prevent what happened this last February. Each house needs to be inspected by a person versed in carpentry, then in electrical work and then in plumbing. All the inspectors should have masters in their various fields and pass a national and state test before being allowed to be inspectors. They next should be required to go through customer consumer education classes in how to deal with people. Granted none of the applicants for city council have that knowledge but all it takes is some reading. Ann Morgan Lily needs to be replaced along with Eddie Holguin and a more conservative candidate elected, although not necessarily conservative religiously, just morally.

I think every incendiary comment on this blog is from Jaime Abeytia and his only 3 friends.....if they only paid you for your mindless comments Jaime.....you could then support your illegitimate children!! You are not representative of El Paso. You are not even worth the chicle on the bottom of our shoes. Go support your kids and quit being a dead beat with a microphone. One day the pendulum will swing the other way and hit you in the face mijo. Maybe when you actually grow up and contribute to society your views will be swayed. Until then, enjoy your leche from the govt teet, low life. Que dios te bendiga
