Add THAT to make sentence easier to understand. Grammar is awkward

Also, the 8th Court of Appeals has ruled the city of El Paso may keep the $30,000 THAT former Northeast city Rep. Melina Castro paid when she sued the city in 2005, lost the case, and was charged to pay the city's attorney fees.

what quintana did is not as bad as susie byrd and veronica escobar talking about welfare cheese and hating the military to the playboy writer. just because susie went to austin and lived above the freeway doesnt make her better than those of us who went to jeff or bowie. why isnt the so called ethics board looking into byrd's and escobar's conduct.

Why would she ever quit? I thought indictments and ethics investigations were resume enhancements for a democrat. Hell, if she would just not pay her taxes she'd be qualified for a national appointment in the Obama administration.

Those who went to Jefferson or Bowie are every bit as good as anyone in the City. The problem is that in El Paso smarter people are treated as if they are educated to make you feel bad or to prove they are special. You don't get to write poorly, think ignorant thoughts and then be treated like you are smart. Ms. Byrd is amongst the best of us. I know nothing of you except your "words" here.
This is my mark in the sand ... write well or don't but save your pride for something real and informed.

THe problem here is not what she did but the double standard that the DA has invoked. We are all supposed to be equal under the law but our local DA seems to have forgotten that. Not only that he seeems to have a seceret set of laws that only apply to politicas he doesn't like. He wants to make an example.

If he really wants to make an example he and the CA should resign due to the corruption that has been going on for years right under their noses at the County Courthouse. Not going to happen though. So much for leadership.

wrong answer, any city official should be held to a higher standard. they should expect it. they are an extension of the public they represent. They should know and expect that that are being watched, and treated accordingly. It should cause her, her seat. she knows if she did it or not, the papers should be in evidence, if what is alleged is true, and shes postponing the inevitable, she should be made to pay back all compensation given her for the seat she holds. if allegations are false, then the accuser along with the DA should be held accountable in the same manner.

The allegations against her are true. When this first broke over a year (?) now, she went on TV and admited that she had done it. If she cared for the people she represents she would have stepped down immeditaly, if cook cared for the people he represents he would have asked her to step down immeditaly, if wiles, who was the chief of police at the time, cared about the people he vowed to protect he would have arrested her then and there. I guess in el paso the best paying job is being a lying, stealing double standrad democrat

El Paso ID Forgery Controversy Points to Larger ID Card Policy Issues
El Paso, TX City Rep Rachel Quintana is in trouble - she's currently under investigation for forgery, using an old ID card from her previous employment at FedEx to purchase a discounted ticket on Southwest Airlines. Several El Paso city officials believe that Quintana's integrity has been severely challenged due to this incident - while some see it as a political stunt. Either way, Quintana used an ID card belonging to FedEx to purchase a ticket from Texas to California nearly one month after she left the company.

FedEx employees receive a special discounted rate from Southwest, a practice that is common among many airlines. When purchasing tickets at this special rate, employees must present two pieces of identification verifying their employment - ID cards that are supposed to be given back to FedEx when leaving the company. Quintana surrendered that badge, but kept an access control card issued by the airport used by employees to enter and exit for normal working purposes. Quintana presented this and a letter on FedEx letterhead stating that she was a current employee. Suspicious of her actions, the Southwest ticket agent called FedEx to double check the validity of the letter and made Quintana pay the difference between the ticket prices before her return flight. Quintana has been under investigation since, and although some El Paso politicians believe this is a politically motivated scandal, Quintana's actions bring up important issues about corporate ID cards.

An ID card is only as good as the policy that stands behind it. We've reported before about unscrupulous employees keeping their ID cards after leaving their jobs and this is no exception - ID cards, especially those enabled with access control, can lead to internalized theft, fraud, or in Quintana's case, attempted forgery. Wider knowledge of FedEx policy and better training, cornerstones of any good ID card program, could have kept Quintana's airport badge from slipping through the cracks.

I like Quintana, dont live in her district.

But she committed a serious crime and as much I wouldnt want her to resign, that is what she should do. She fell into the EP motto of Corruption is routine, expected and accepted.

One by one, they will get caught.

The local da, who did not apply the "higher Standard" on his golfing buddy Joe Wardy, should be the first ethics committee topic!

based on what when it broke posted if it is accurate, Ms Quintana ought to be found guilty at trail, and resign upon her conviction.
My understanding back when this broke was she had purchased the ticket prior to leaving Fedex, was trying to use it, and since she was no longer an employee so no longer had the required ID. It would seem ridiculous if she bought the ticket and was eligible for any specila pricing when she bought it she ought to be able to use it, REGARDLESS of her employment situation at the time of the flight.
If on the other hand she tried to procure the ticket after her FEDEX employment ended then she committed a crime and ought to pay the price, either way an easy case to make IMO.
Also my opinion here you either are subject to the law or you aren't, either she did it or didn't. IMO, the DA has an abysmal record when it comes to the practice of equal justice, Ms Caballero's campaign ought to have lasted 15 minutes, it was competitive for much longer basically by Theresa pointing out inconsistancies is how the D's office applied justice, who and what were prosecuted, and who and what weren't.
As for Ms. Quintana, if a first offender program is available and she qualifies there you go, my understanding of adult diversion programs like that is you plea and then complete the program and the conviction is set aside. Well, if Ms. Quintana pleads guilty or no contest, she must resign or be removed, I'm pretty sure the law requires you leave your office if convicted while holding that office.
Please if anyone has further info, please share.

So does it make it right? Laws and rules are in place to ensure our voted members are above reproach. If we find these members that break the laws or the rules than they should GO. We complain about our politicians but never want to hold them accountable. Wrong is Wrong and that's the bottom line.
