Then no more roads, parks, etc. Where do you think the money comes from? And did you actually read the article? They are not raising taxes to cover the cost of these projects.

Why not use the beautification money for streets that need to be repaved/reconstructed really bad???? I can think of a few (Yandell from Campbell to Santa Fe, Kernel circle and Padilla drive in the lower valley). Those are streets used regularly by city buses whose weight tears up the streets really bad.

its taking money out of on pocket and putting it in another. its the same chit as they wanted with the tif without eminent domain(maybe?). its just like wilson's bullchit when she sent street department work(stormwater) over to the psb and then the following year says she lowered the budget. this is all bullchit.

Raise Taxes on everyone! We need a birth tax, an annual tax that increases each year as you age, then a death tax.

Let's also have a right to drive tax. Each vehicle of any type should be required to pay a monthly fee for using roads.

We need to add $1.00 to every gallon of fuel.

And also, let's raise property taxes on every house that is on a street. We can call it 'an access to property fee'. Businesses would be required to pay an annual fee for each parking spot they have.

Botton line - everyone needs to pay more in taxes; it's the American dream.

They are not raising taxes, read the article! The tax zones reallocate where the taxes go; these are taxes that are already being collected! Citizens should beware of other citizens yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theatre. That's what some of these "local tazitas de te" are trying to do.

Hey Omar, you missed this one.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. If you get into a car accident and 911 is called, you may get billed for the emergency response. Cash-strapped communities are sending out bills to cover the costs of fire trucks and police cars responding to crashes.

Even though we are paying taxes for these services, we need to have a second tax.

Motorists across the country are calling these fees a "crash tax".

What about the .60cents per gallon tax on every gallon of gas?
(federal, state and local included)
What about the $15.00 road and bridge tax when you re-register your vehicle every year?
What about the tax on the inspection sticker?

Now they want more taxes?

Where's the money going people??????????

This town sucks your wealth!!!!!!

Since when did your property taxes go to paying for roads?
Isn't that why there is a tax on every gallon of gasoline, road and bridge tax on your registration of your vehicles, inspection sticker tax?

Believe the gas tax is only 38.5 cents. 18.5 cents goes to the Feds and 20 cents goes to the state. Of the state's 20 cents, 5 cents of that goes to education.

So if you did increase the gas tax to 60 cents that would certainly be a big, big help. Unfortunately don't think many of the prior posters would favor that.

They will have to raise taxes in the long run. It may work okay for a couple of years 3-5 then they will need to raise taxes. Maybe we can save the money the intend to beautify the bridges and the streets and invest it in real infrastructure.

what the City has done is lay the foundation for increased taxes. The TRIZ #1 will take in excess of $1,000,000,000 from the general fund over the next 30 years and that is only from a portion of the TRIZ. These additional TRIZ'a will also divert money from the General Fund of the City. Now add the downtown TIRZ and an excessive amount of money will be diverted from the General Fund. The problem comes when the City has to pay it's bills. With less money coming in our taxes will increase and services will decrease. So the statement that your taxes won't go up is a BIG LIE!!. Just wait till our regional mobility authority starts to tax people.

another thing that comes from these actions is the area from the State Park to I-10 will completely developed. Leaving zero chance that that part of the Mountains will be saved from destruction.

Really doesn't matter because you people will not do a thing but *itch and moan here and that is exactly what the City is counting on. That you just bend over and taake it.

bottom line....the roads in El Paso need to be improved, no dispute there. I-10/Joe Battle needs to be connected instead of the moronic way its set up now...and nobody, NOBODY, who has driven through the Zaragosa/Montwood intersection on a Friday afternoon would dispute that it needs to be improved. There are a zillion streets in El Paso that need to be improved however and the money needs to come from somewhere so get over it. I agree with a previous post the people who layed out the Montwood/Zaragosa intersection and I-10/Joe Battle connection should be prosectued then sentenced to a lifetime of having to drive those intersections non stop.

If you think that the city will not raise taxes you ned to re-think what is happening. The weasels are screwing the people. 1 BILLION dollars in Certificate of Obligations (WEASEL BONDS) and now they want to divert property taxes for roads. You cannot re-allocate monies that are needed in the general revenue fund without a TAX INCREASE. If they would pull their heads out of rectal defilate this would not be necessay.
As for yelling fire look at your tax bill if you own a home! If you enjoy giving your monies to the city go downtown every payday and turn it over to them that way you can give us a break that are sick and tired of taxes, a so called city council of morons that can not add or subtract. All of the puppets do not have the intellect to say no just spend spend and spend.
