Charlene Hoover Jones was my sweet cousin whom I loved all my life. She loved me unconditionally as the bible teaches us to love. I had the same love for her.
She will never be forgotten and I only have to think of her to hear her laughter. I can almost feel her hugging me as she always did.
Her death was tragic but her feeling the arms of our Lord greeting her in heaven must have been nothing short of glorious.
We'll never forget you my sweet cousin and friend. We'll never forget.

Grady, I don't know if you remember me but I ran around w/Charlene at Worth Baptist Church..what a terrible terrible way for her to meet Jesus. It just broke my heart. I could not bear the go to the funeral. I'm going to keep track of that Jerry Lynn Phelps until they stick that needle in him..I might even be there. Please contact me...I would love to share our memories of those good times

Charlene's funeral was a sweet, sweet blessing. It was hard for us all but we reconfirmed that Charlene has changed residence and that we'll all see her again in the future. Her Brother-in-Law preached her funeral and we all felt the love of our Lord there. It was amazingly comforting. The side isles were lined with the overflow of friends that came to say goodby. Thanks for the times you were close to Charlene. Like everyone else in her life, I know she had a sweet love for you too.

I just recently heard the news of Charlene, I can't tell you how much it hurts me. She was always nothing less than wonderful to me and my sister. I can't describe how violated I feel for her. She didnt deserve this. I regret that the world has lost such a beautiful human being, but I know she watches over all of us now.
I will miss you so, Charlene...
Thank you for always making me laugh,

Does anyone know the truth of what actually happened to charlene? She was a dear friend of mine, and I just heard bits and pieces of the awful news of what happened. I heard a employer had been caught stealing from her, she fired him and he got angry went outside to get a gun and came back and shot her 5 times. is that correct? And who is this loser who did this to her? And should paul be reading this, "I am so very sorry this has happened and cant imagine your pain you must feel inside, my prayers are with you brother" ....Big Dave

Not guilty plea heard in game room shooting

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

Jerry Lynn Phelps has pleaded not guilty to a charge of capital murder in connection with the shooting death of the owner of a game room where he used to work.

Phelps entered the plea Friday morning during a hearing in the 196th District Court. Judge Joe Leonard appointed an attorney to represent Phelps and set an interim hearing date for Feb. 18.

Phelps, 53, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail, charged with capital murder involving the death of Charlene Hoover Jones.

A capital murder charge is filed when the murder alleged is committed in connection with the commission of a second major felony, such as robbery, kidnapping, rape or another murder. Those convicted of capital murder face a sentence of either life in prison or death by lethal injection.

In Phelps’ case, the other felony was reported robbery of the business where the alleged murder occurred.

Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they seeking the death penalty for Phelps, should he be convicted of capital murder.

Jones, 57, died after being shot multiple times on the morning of Oct. 9 as she worked at the Jackpot Game Room, also known as Charlene’s Game Room at 2669 State Highway 276 between Quinlan and West Tawakoni.

Phelps was arrested following a traffic stop on Private Road 3738, about an hour after the shooting occurred, at which time deputies reported finding .38 caliber rounds in the front pocket of the jeans Phelps was wearing. When asked, Phelps was said to have told the officers he had sold the weapon used in the shooting.

Thanks for the new story. I hope he gets life in prison cause death by lethal injections seems too humane for him. It would not be the torture he gave to our Charlene. I miss her so much. She will forever be in my heart and I am blessed to have known her. I want him to suffer and think about what he did and why he is incarcerated. I think leathal injection is too good for him. Whatever they do - I know its God's will and I will accept but I want him locked up or dead forever because that is what he deserves. Please update if you find out anything else.
