Royse City Wal-Mart? Maybe...maybe not.

Rumor is that the on-again, off-again Wal-Mart coming to Royse City is suddenly off-again. Seems the state of the economy in the State of Texas has once again disrupted the idea of having our own friendly Wal-Mart right here in Royse City. Do you remember the "promise" the State made with the City of RC about 4 or 5 years ago, give or take a year or so? Well that "promise" that was never signed as an "official" agreement has been rescended. The rush on building Erby Campbell Blvd, seems to be a foolish man's dream now.
The "rumor" is that the State of Texas now says that they do not have the money to complete that project of building the overpass...at this time. Therefore, no overpass, no Wal-Mart. Or so it seems.
Hopefully this is just what it is, a "rumor" and nothing more. However if this does prove to be true, what a shame it is to build dreams by this and the previous administrations of Royse City, just to have them either delayed or torn down because "very simple" and proper procedures were not followed.
And this would make how many signs posted that Wal-Mart is 'Coming Soon'?

Yes I live in Royse City and what makes me a naysayer or a trouble maker if I state I hope the rumors are true? Wal Mart brings low paying part time jobs and will kill what business we do have here plus I am pretty sure the city had to make some kind of tax break deal to get them to open here plus the fact that we are having to pay a portion of a bridge they want built sounds like a crap deal to me. And yes the crime rate will go up I hope the city is planning on adding a few officers by then.

i dont necessarily disagree. So whats your solution. For years everyone has been complaining of getting a store so now that there MAY be one coming its not the right one.

I personally do not mind the 8 mile drive to Rockwall to Tom Thumb. SO i don't really care if there is a store here. Yes it would be nice but this town cannot support a store it is that simple.

i disagree. I think the town can support a grocery and will draw shoppers from surrounding small towns. Now i dont mind the drive either and if i have to keep driving then i will no problem. The deal is this if we dont get some retail growth soon we can expect a tax increase on top of our already high tax rate. At some point me as an intelligent person has to look at whether or not it makes since to keep paying high taxes and not get a return on my investment. Who knows what the answer is but there has to be more than a love for the town. It has to make sense.

I live in Royse City. I shop in Rockwall and Quinlan. I started going to the new Aldi in Rockwall and I really like it. Today I went to the Wal-Mart in Quinlan. I also compare prices and use coupons. My savings average about $10 sometimes more. Today I was told that we could no longer compare store brand items to Wal-Mart store brands. I asked when this this start and was told it started two days ago. There were no signs in the store to let customers know we could no longer compare store brand items. There were no "new" commercials making this statement. So, how were we to know? I put my items back that were store brand items. The clerk told me that Wal-Mart is coming up short comparing with other store brands. From now on I am shopping in Rockwall. Buying my dog food at Petco and shopping at Aldi for my other items. I will probably go to Kroger for items that I can use coupons on. I am not saying I will not go back to Wal-Mart, because I know I will. But, I will not be spending the $130 or more a week that I usually do.
What really got to me is that no one let the customers know anything. And, they changed in the middle of the week. What is up with that? Come on. Just because Wal-Mart is big doesn't mean they can take advantage of us.
I thank you for your time.

The Walmart in Rockwall still does the store brand price match. I did it today. Maybe its just a Quinlan store policy.

Now that is a good Question... But like myself I go to Rockwall to do my shopping. Although, Greenville is closer. It’s the same as when I lived close to Quinlan I would drive to Rockwall.. I guess it’s all a bought personal preference

Walmart is coming to Royse City, like it or not, so get over it. The time has come that well-informed, enlightened people have decided that we should not have to buy our dog food and milk at a dollar store or the shell station. Royse City has been handicapped for decades by self serving, narrow people who only want to protect their own petty business interests. The progress train has left the station and will be arriving at our doorstep soon, and no amount of bluster, lies, distortions or intimidation is going to keep that from happening, so get on board or get out of the way!

Ted,
Did you used to live in San Diego and currently live in Royse City? I bought a house there in 06 and plan on moving to Royse City in the future. How do you like it in Royse City? How does it compare to Southern California. I have been in So Cal my whole life. I'm worried about the adjustment and whether I might regret moving.
