Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on the Royse City Police Department.

I've never had any problems with them. They've always been very respectful, courteous and prompt to respond.

No respect at all for the RC Police Department.

The RCPD is great! Not perfect, but they do a great job. I always find that if you don't break the law and don't act like a fool, the police leave you alone. Some people just can't help figure that out and then want to get mad at the police.

obviously Howard you have not been woken up in the middle of the night by RCPD to tell you that your car is parked an inch or two to far from the curb. Obvioulsy you have not gotten a ticket for having one of your tires of your vehicle in the grass when I see everday complete vehicles parked in the grass... I have many many more of the seven years I have been in Royse City including telling the police department where drugs were grown in a specific resident for them only to tell me there was nothing they could do about it. and I assure you we are not trouble makers, we dont break the law and we dont act like a fool. Yes I am upset with the RCPD with justifiiable cause.

Some of those problems should be getting better since the City Manager has been ushered out the door. Seems she was an instigator of trouble in more ways than one. The grass parking and the grass growing are obviously two very different issues. I hope that the grass growing and I don't mean on the lawn, has stopped. I too was a victim of one of the so called city ordinances and I had to spend a half of a day in city court just to be dismissed because the city law could not be enforced within the entire city. If they do get a good City Manager and a good Mayor, then the police situation should improve. I am a big supporter of our police department and I know we have the best Police Chief that can be found. Good luck kid.

This is true that the City Manager was a big cause but she has been gone for several months. The Police Department is a disgrace due to ďThe Best Police Chief that can be found.ď The SO CALLED BEST CHIEF has run off several good Officers because he canít take his head out of his rear end. If he could take his head out of his rear end he might be able to make a good decision every once in a while. If you live around Royse City for the past 3 to 4 years you could find the SO CALLED BEST CHIEF mowing his yard instead of doing Police Work. Chief Shelton came to Royse City for a retirement pay check and thatís what he needs to do ďRetireĒ and maybe the Police Department will once again be a reflection of the city.

I agree with Elvis about Chief Shelton. He is a very good man and he has made some good decisions during his time here. I did not care for that 'so called' chief they had before him. I'm sorry, but he was the worst I have ever seen. Then he came back after he was fired, ran for and got on city council and started firing people that fired him. Then he quit the council. As for Shelton mowing his grass. How do you know it was not after a police related all nighter, or on his lunch break, or while he was on vacation, or maybe he just had to take off work to get it done, because he has been so busy. And for your remark about the Police Department being a "reflection of the city". I don't want that to happen at all! Who would want the RCPD to be a reflection of mismanagement, poor decisions and a complete failure in the past 10 years? Leave Chief Shelton to protecting our city and our citizens. He is the one thing that is still right about our town.

What good decisions has Chief Shelton made?
Chief Thomason was not fired, he took a job as a deputy with the Sheriff's Department. He didn't quit the city council, he just didn't run for re-election.

Chief never works all nighters, or mows on a lunch break...he eats lunch. He did not mow on vacation either, he did it while he should of been working!!! He never worked a full day and never worked nights either.

Tell me waht the "So called best Chief" has done for this city? Please give me some examples.

jbl, i can answer some for ol' Mack Truck there. Chief Shelton took over a police force that was in shambles with the previous Police Chief. if Thomason was not fired, then he was asked given an option and he took the easy way out. Thomason ran for City council for one thing and everybody knows that. As soon as he took care of his personal agenda, he high tailed it outta there. He got into trouble for some things, was reprimanded and did not like it. Dig a little deeper jbl. You don't know.
Chief Shelton's decision to bring Lt. Baker in to this town was one great decision. Shelton's decision to bring honesty and integrity into this town was another example. Shelton's programs with involving the citizens of the community...ie, the Police Academy was another decision, the best Chief ever to come to RC made. His work with drug prevention, awareness and implementation of training within the cities force is another example. Chief Shelton also has brought over 20 years of knowledge and training from special intelligence and forces into the community's police force. Tom Shelton has implemented a physical training program for his force. What else do you need? I can go on, but you apparently are not a Tom Shelton fan. So what if he was mowing once on the cities dollar. I imagine he was also interupted enough during a church service or his lunch or his dinner or his time with his family before. Get over it. He mowed his freakin' yard. And don't tell me he never worked a full day...that statement is as well not true. And Thomason was not qualified to run this city and joining the Sherrif's Dept is no big deal. His run-in with city management at that time was the only thing that caused him to lose his position in RC.
Chief Shelton, his family values and his professionalism are what keeps this city afloat. Get a grip jbl and get over it. Sorry Mack Truck, I just had to answer this one for you. When people talk bad about good people that just gets under my skin.

As the Chief of Police he is on duty 24/7. He does not get paid overtime. Therefore your "ethics" charge is invalid.

It is real easy for some yahoo to see the Chief mowing during the day and assume he is on the "cities dollar".

Quit hating just because you have a personal vendetta.

I remember Chief Jackson, But the only interaction I've had since was an officer walking up to my door @ midnight because I was up late and had the front door open for fresh air. Just a very nice person who just wanted to make sure we were safe.

Many of you will remember that Chief Thomason let a posse of about 20 men, two dogs and shotgums into a community that was have a block party. Someone call 911 and reported a shot. three hours later Thomason and his posse went down the street driving all the residents into their homes or be arrested. No report was made to the mayor or city council and they didn't find out about it for nearly a week. They ask him for a written report on why he took the posse into the community and he never gave a written report. They suspended him, but he still never explained to them why he did what he did. He then got an attorney to have his suspension removed from his file. He apparently lost his case and the end result they suggested he retire in six months and that he did. He apparently couldn't find a chief's job so he took a patrol officers job with the county.

I had forgotten about that, there were shots fired into the air if I remember correctly. That was big news at the time.

It was Juneteenth and nothing more than a celebration was in progress. Those holding the celebration showed up on the city manager's steps the next day and demanded the Chief's removal. That one error in judgement and then the subsequent refusal to report caused a chain reaction that eventually led to the city nearly going bankrupt. And you have a complaint about Tom Shelton "mowing" his yard? Gimme a break!

Yeah the lawn things kind of silly. I have a job with long hours. If I need to run to the school for the kids, get a hair cut or just need to get out of the office for a few minutes I go. If there is an isue the staff can't handle I get a ring on my cell for direction. Noone can be on site at every moment it's not like a cheif of police punches a clock. He's needed when he's needed 24/7.

I think the whole department is jacked up! you have police officers, sleeping with high school aged kids, hanging out at gas staions for hours at a time when they should be protecting our streets!!! giving out information to citizens that is none of their buisness, or sometimes still under investigation!!!! out of the police officers we have left only, 4 of them that I can think of are even worth a DAMN!!!! and the cheif DEF is not one of them!!!! I think there should be a full investigation of that horrible PD!!!!

You must have gotten a ticket that you thought you did not deserve. I hope nobody believes what you are saying about a very responsible, reliable and professional police force. Also that is led by an honorable and ethical good man like Chief Shelton.

Wow. If all that were true I'm sure they wouldn't still have their jobs.
