One would expect the teachers in our schools to be relatively organized and to have their information for their students in a timely manner.

So, why is it that it appears difficult to get a current, up-to-date and ACCURATE required supplies list for the students sometime before the last day of summer vacation!

If a business was run like that, if materials were ordered the day before they were needed to produce some product, pretty soon the business would be in big trouble. So, why do schools seem to be run like that?

In fact, why is it not possible for the supplies list to be handed out to every student on the last day of the preceeding school year? If it is because the teachers just do not have a clue what they will want the students to come to school with on the first day of the next year, then the teacher is at fault. If it is because the DISTRICT changes the things each student needs, then the district is at fault. But SOMEONE needs to do a better job!

It is especially important, in the current economy, that parents be able to have at least a heads-up as to what they might be required to purchase for their kids. People who live from paycheck to paycheck (suppising that they even have a job) need to know this stuff far in advance!

And while I am on a rant, how come all the stores seem to have their back-to-school sales BEFORE the supply list is even available?(of course, that is the fault of the stores, although they do not have the list either)

So, this means many parents are in a real crush the last two to three weeks before school starts, to round up all the required supplies, as well as to purchase all the new clothes and shoes for a kid who grew 6 inches during the summer, and all their equipment and materials for any sport in which they may be participating.

I do realize that if the supplies list were handed out on the last day of school some kids and some parents would lose the list before time to purchase supplies again. But, if the list were made available on the last day of school, not only to the kids and parents, but to the STORES (that usually do have supplies info of some nature)would have it, and their lists woud be current. And, the lists could be published i the newspaper as well as made available online! WHY IS THIS SO HARD!

So, because nothing ever changes until enough voices are heard, if you are a parent who thinks this is a valid issue, please post here as well as sending the school a message that they need to do their part to help the parents furnish what their kids need to do their work!
