So what does everyone think about the new Superintendents plan to turn Lincoln School into an all English as a Second Language (ESL)school? All Non-English students will go there but no students that are fluent in English will be allowed to.

sounds like a good idea to me,but make sure it stays running by american people and american rules.there is too much hatred for arabians all over the world, because after 9-11-01 and all ya know, everyone thinks they did it......if they want to all stick together that is fine.

I noticed in the newspaper article yesterday that the Superintendent didn't mention that entire classes would be taught in Arabic and others in Spanish.
This may well be the only public school dedicated to people of foreign languages within 100's of miles (if anywhere in the US). It should be quite a draw of new people to he school system and Coldwater.
Is that good?

I know this is a little off topic but some of you have expressed interest in what is happening in our schools lately. Here are a few current actions taking place in Michigan;

The West Bloomfield Teacher 'Sick Out'
http://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/14 ...
"The total compensation of a West Bloomfield teacher grew 173 percent over an 11-year period, going from $47,346 to $129,637, according to information that was presented at a school board meeting in December.

The teacherís salary started at $31,881 in 1999-00 and grew to $85,836 in 2010-11. Meanwhile, insurance payments climbed from $9,309 to $19,304 per year, and retirement contributions jumped from $3,717 to $16,854 per year."

Michigan orders Detroit to close HALF of public schools...-

http://detnews.com/article/20110221/SCHOOLS/1 ...

Tomorrow the new Superintendent of our local schools will formally announce the conversion of one of our four elementary schools to a school designed ONLY for non-English or limited English students and will teach those classes in Arabic and Spanish. It is designed to be a "Magnet School". Now where do you suppose she intends to draw students from? Will a huge influx of these people improve out rural community of under 10,000? Will it bring people who will contribute to our society or people who will need other special services at our expense? Will it help ease the burden of our local overworked food pantry, police departments or court system? Will it help reduces our unemployment or raise our failing wages?
http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/M ...

One thing it will do is bring big money to the school system as each of the "special" students that will go to that school will bring addition educational bounty money to the system.

The neighborhood will just have to bite it.

Well get used to it buddy 'cuase I'm not changing over you.

This is a racist move that I hope causes the schools to be sued. It is segregation is a sneaky form. I think many of the minorities are pushing for it and the majority are just fine with it but that doesn't make it right.

It will be a negative thing for this town. Too bad f you don't like me exposing the truth.

What school does Bronson send their non-English kids?

Don't you know this country has already suffered riots over the "separate but equal" stuff? It doesn't work.

How does separation from the general population immerse them in this country and foster integration and assimilation?

Tell the truth, the most common positive comment you have heard from people about it is "At least it will get them out of our classrooms".

Is that what you like about it?

Gee 'what" where did you go? You came here acting all authoritative and trying to hush me up after I hadn't made a post in almost a week anyway. You blasted me with insults like you were really gonna shoot me down and then disappeared the first time I asked you to defend a statement you made.

Tell me the spin on how Bronson is doing this too and how this will save money.

Coldwater isn't downsizing and closing a school to save money, to the contrary, it will be adding several teachers, classes, adult classes, daycare from birth to adulthood and other services. It will also be busing students back and forth constantly from the north end of the county to near the southern end.

Give me the totals on the cost saving in that oh brilliant one.

You have not addressed one item accurately. Admit it, you really don't know anything about this issue do you? Why did you jump in to shoot your mouth off?

This is going to cost us a fortune, new teachers, transpotation, yada yada yada. As much as we need to renew the sinking fund millage we have to vote "no" now because we KNOW that they will be neding to vote for increased taxes when the state cuts back.

I noticed our district enrollment is down by another 70 students this year. Looks like people are abandoning the district like crazy after having a year to see how awful this plan is.
