Anybody switch electric companies and get better rates? There's gotta be a better one out there. I thought deregulating these companies was supposed to spur competition and in return make competitive rates. This sucks.

There's not a "better one out there" or even a good one for that matter. All deregulation did was allow these scumbag power compaines to "recoup lost profits" caused by regulation.

Are you talking about Quakertown Borough, or areas around Quakertown? I thought no one in the Borough could switch.

The Borough operates their own electric department. They buy it in bulk and bill property owners. Other places get their bill directly from PPL, etc. How would you go about signing up for it.

From what I understand, municipalities like that don't even come under PA PUC regulations.

Why Quakertown can monopolize are trash collection and electric is beyond me. What is the matter with people? One person cannot do it alone. We have to fight for our freedom from Quakertowns communistic ways, by attending meetings to see any change.
That is highly unlikely everyone gripes about it !Though when time comes to fight we whimper back. Wish we were more like Milford Square peeps.

If you live in Quakertown Borough, find out what PPL charges per KWH and compare that figure with what the Borough bills you.

That's why businesses keep moving out of the boro. The electric rates are even worse for businesses. you are charged the peak rate for all the power you use. In other words. They measure your highest usage hot water, frig, freeer , TV, Dishwasher, AC, oven all on at the same time, guess what, thats the rate they charge you for all your electric, even when you only have your alarm clocks plugged in.

My trash collection is much less expensive than when we lived in Haycock, a third of what we had paid. Chestmont has been great they give us a great rate.

Becasue electric is the primary source of revenue for the borough we are excluded from being able to shop our services. The cost has gotten so high that we just got an estimate to switch our heat to propane and we will make back the savings over just one winter.

Can I ask what the cost is?

Funny I read an article that PP&L will decrease rates to those that had been loyal and staye with them as fossil fuels prices are dropping. Yet everyone one else (Quakertown) was in such a hurry to lock in outrageous rates for 5 years. SO not only did we get raped by AMP Ohio, but by the town as well being they need to make money off of us for their revenue. For what my electric increases have been over the last 7 years, raising my taxes would have been cheaper

If the electric rate does not go down the town will never be revitalized. Mom and Pop stores can't afford it.

Everytime Qtown raises their rates they tack on an extra 3 or 4 percent for the general budget. This is one of the ways they can say they haven't raised Borough taxes for over 20 years.

It is funny that a certain councilman owns buildings in town and he never wants to raise the taxes. He has no problem raising the electric since his tennants are the ones that pay the electric bill.

How many businesses does this guy own. I know for a fact that there are apts above the one business. Maybe you should get your facts right. Amazing that people can justify this ass on council. The borough buys all kinds of supplies from his store but they don't buy anything else from local businesses. Hey Get it Right. Maybe you should really look into you ass buddy and how crooked he really is or better yet Woldow should look into this. The tax payers have a right to know the truth.

Now Woldow please. Enough of his lies but I do think that people would be shocked how many buildings that a certain councilman owns besides a book store. Something needs to be done about the electric rate and the council and the useless manager won't do anything to help the tax payers.

Enlighten us Oh Great One! Please list the buildings he owns and please tell us how much stuff is purchased from his business. You said people would be shocked to know...so tell us.

Or is this where you say "Don't be so lazy and find that information yourself!" simply because you're a big mouth and don't really know yourself?

You did not say anything about the the apts above his book store. All you have to do is go to a council meeting or read the minutes on the web site and see that Mr.Roberts abstained from voting on checks being aproved for voting. If you want I can go through all the boro minutes on there web site and tell you how many times a year they purchase from his store. I can tell you are friends with him and that is fine. Just please know the facts before you open your big mouth. Anything else you need enlighten on just let me know.
