We are looking for a youth basketball team for our 11 year old son to join and there doesnt seem to be anything in quakertown, at least that we have found. Have looked at the ymca but that isnt structured enough. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

I am not sure if there is a midget basketball league in this area or not. I recall seeing parents of this age group playing basketball with their kids on Saturday morning at Strayer middle school within the past few years.

Though, this may very well be less structure than the organized league that you desire. Topix won't allow the posting of phone numbers on here, but go to the Quakertown Community School District web site to get more contact information. The Athletic Director is in charge of facility rental, so ask for his office to find out to whom and if this rental still occurs on the weekends.

If you are a district resident that home schools your son or sends him to private or parochial school, know that he is entitled to take part in afterschool activities at the public schools. Basketball begins as a winter sport at the middle school level (6th grade).

I wouldnt think Quakertown is big on a basketball program. We are the furthest town from the city, where basketball is huge.

The Y is the closest thing in this area (let alone any surrounding areas) for youth basketball until kids reach the middle school. Other then school there are a few clinics and such but no true basketball program.

Baseball and football start in the zygote stages in this area. Basketball gets no love though.

There is a indoor sports complex in Hatfield. It is in the industrial park off of Unionville Pike (on the left). I had heard that they are very good, but they are also very expensive.

I don't know the name of the place...sorry!

Unless it has changed its program it is not a sportsplex, just an indoor hockey arena. THe closest sportsplex I know of is 422 sportsplex, I only know because that is where we have to travel to for roller hockey and see many of our local indoor soccer and field hockey teams there.

...we're better than Google here on Topix!!

Way to step up St. Izzy's to meet this recreational need in our community. We have so many wonderful public and private options here.

BCR, good one, you really made me chuckle.

Thanks for your response. I have contacted the school and they just redirect me to the Ymca. I guess there is a youth girls basketball league , but no boys. Maybe thats what you saw at strayer. I am suprrised they would have a girls programs and no boys. Thanks again!!!!!

The kids I saw playing there a few years back were on my son's QMFA football team when he was 11 years old- definitely boys. Any group can choose to rent or not rent a certain facility. That boys league may be elsewhere or the Y may have been renting the school.

You may try the QMFA website for contact information to try to figure out if this league was something other than the Y. Two of the men I remember seeing at Strayer are the current QMFA President and another board member. If there is no contact info for individual board members, the president is a real estate agent for Keller Williams and I am sure there would be contact info for him there.

I would add wrestling to the list generated by BCR- this seems to be the most dominant winter sport around here.

I know for sure about the boys basketball being available to all district kids at the middle schools.

The boys practice either at St Izzy's gym or QE, Pfaff, Freshman Center or HS gyms.

Team X Basketball raised their price to $150 for this upcoming winter season. That price is OUTRAGEOUS. They have a lot of balls raising their prices that much in this economy. We've played in the past but won't be playing this year.
