Let's start some discussions on our area eateries. I've never eaten at McCoole's. How is it? Should I try it for lunch sometime and break my P & F and QFR habits?

I like McCool's. I have heard some disparraging things about the owner, but the staff is pleasant, and the food is good. BTW tip the bartenders.

I absolutely love McCoole's. You get a decent meal for a decent price. I try to have a different flavor martini off of the martini menu every time I go. The staff is great.

I like the beaver shots I get from the ladies in short skirts when I drive by.

What about the bums sitting on the steps and porch all the time? Not good for 'quality' restaurant.

My first, only, and last time in McCoole's. Place was filled with flies. Repeatedly informed server; nothing done. Ordered iced tea. The sweetened kind was packed with lemon flavoring and you could not taste the tea. The unsweetened kind tasted like the teabags were roasted in the water and it was stale. Had to order a soda. The sandwich was on a roll and was hard as a brick. The place was dirty and needs to be cleaned. Overall, the menu was way overpriced for the Quakertown area. One stry I remember. When Lou Bates had The Brick Tavern there, he rented the restaurant part from Jan Hench, the owner. She was a bar regular and routinely ran off the bar patrons due to her boisterous and booze-induced speaking. One of Lou's former servers told me every time Jan came in and started to get loud, profane like a sailor, and telling stories about the "maggots upstairs," this server would bring out a large bowl of rolls and put it in front of her so she would start eating and shut up. Lou lost a bunch of business because of Jan Hench. She needs to clean up the place, revamp her menu and pricing, and serve quality food and drink. Jan Hench is a drunk and does not care. As long as she is making money, she just does not care about the public.

Philadelphia Magazine gave McCoole's a horrible review and chastised Hench for being drunk at the bar.

Can you post the link to this. Why would Philly magazine come all the way to Q-town for a review?

LOUISE your comments, for one who professes to have been there once, reads like a fictional gossip filled diatribe by a disgruntled ex-employee or political adversary of Hench. Could her participation in Richland Township volunteer activities and the Dems having their victory celebration in her rental property be a factor?

I would agree. However I think the neighbors are ruining the area.

Never saw flies, never saw Jan drunk. I have heard bad things about here from people in town but I know McCooles is a busy place so they must be doig something right.

I would LOVE to see that Philadephia article.

I've posted here before and it bears repeating. I've been verbally assualted there while Jan and her husband sat drunk at the bar laughing while some drunk guy made rude comments about my 'assets' and how much he liked them.

Bordering on..if they weren't going to throw him out, DH was. It was ridiculous. I tried to laugh it off as much as possible, we were in a group of people and had just ordered. We ended up leaving. Hench and her husband even made a comment on it on their way out.

Boy was her face red at a public political function at a later date, when she was trying to pander to me to get me to introduce her to someone. She realized who I was right away, and was trying desperately to gain my favor.

The woman is common, and nothing else.

Its a well known fact that the Murphy's hate Jan Hench and as has been proven on here many times before will say anything against anyone that does not agree with them. I know in 2007, some R's and woldow had a party their, and they have had it out for Jan ever since. In summary, dont believe ANYTHING you read here, especially by AOL posts...

McCool's at the Red Lion Hotel at the corner of Broad and Main Streets in Historic Quakertown. PA is a great place to go in Upper Bucks for food, frolic, Sunday Brunch, weekday lunch, dinner or drinks and snacks- indoors or out, and a visit to the site where our wonderful Liberty Bell waa hidden on its way to Bethlehem to avoid capture by the 'Brits' as well as the site of the famous Fries Rebellion.

I think the 'husband' is the boyfriend and her business partner.
