Waste of Money

Veterans Park is so far out of town that kids cant even enjoy it. There are no walking trails,so they would need a ride. How did they get this expensive park approved for 1 sport & only for girls. Now no parents in their right mind would even let their daughter join because of the child molester. It creeps me out that he could be scoping out his next victim. What a big waste of money !!!!!!!!!

I spoke with someone who worked with the company that came in second on the bidding for the park. This person said the winning bidder did not know how to construct and complete the park. The field was screwed up beyond repair. The winner refused to make things right and let their bond money go. The Richland mgr caled the second place bidder and offered $85,000 to come back and fix the field. That bidder rechecked the field and said it would cost $300,000. On top of that, I had stopped by a few weeks ago to see a friend's daughter play. I asked my buddy where the bathroom was. He pointed to the woods. The stupid a-holes did not put in bathrooms. Spent all that money, the field is a mess, and no bathrooms. Richland is screwed up and mismanaged starting with the elected officials.

Veteran's Park is just an earmark for two of Orloff's cronies: Paul Hetrick and Carla DeMuro-Mercon--township volunteers AND they run RASA.

They sure got a SWEET deal to pay back their portion of the construction costs that they knew they could NEVER repay in 10 years! They are a NON-PROFIT, yet Orloff, in about 30 seconds of calculations, said they could repay it at a rate of $45,000 per year--on top of the maintenance for the park and trails.

As for the trails...they are only in the park and isolated.

Just remember, Woldow chairs the annual golf outing to raise money for this park, and probably wants it that way so he can ambush the girls in the woods!

$2.5 million and no toilets! Gotta love it!

Funny how the Quakertown Soccer Club and Midget Football Association have buildings with snack stands AND bathrooms...and they're right down the street!

There are toilet facilities at Vet Park (in the "clubhouse"), but like everything about this park, were designed poorly and not opened.

The money should have went to soccer or field hockey. Is softball even a real sport ??

I find it very interesting that they the BOS made such a quick decision to pay for this. It does not benefit ALL of the township, if township money is paid out at this vast amount it should have been voted on, it's OUR money.

Perhaps the township would like to donate a building for the food pantry gratis.

Why were their softball tournaments being held on the fields of the freshman center after this park was built? Was thre not enough room there?

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP BOARD OF SUPERVISORS BUSINESS MEETING AUGUST 13, 2007
Presentation by Richland Township Softball Association (RASA) of a request for additional financial assistance towards improvements they are making at Veterans Park
Paul Hetrick, Vicki O’Neil, and Carla Demuro-Mercon were present to discuss a request for an additional loan of $270,000 to enable them to complete their responsibilities at Veterans Park. Mr. Treadwell has prepared a new memo of understanding to authorize the loan.
MOTION Mr. Zowniriw made a motion to authorize an additional loan of $270,000 to RASA as requested and outlined in Mr. Treadwell’s memo of understanding subject to staff working out any further details. Mr. Orloff seconded the motion. Vote: All in favor. Motion carried unanimously.

Beemer wrote:”The locals do a lot with our money without asking permission, like the ballfield fiasco. I never would have voted that the township pick up that cost for a private entity”
THAT might be why you are blogging here rather than sitting on the dias making decisions.

The Real Hummm wrote to Beemer:“Beemer, I'm glad you brought up the free ballpark for RASA. They got it because Paul Hetrick and Carla DeMuro-Mercon are Orloff worshipers”
"THEY" are US. The citizens of Richland Township got a park with playing fields, concession stand, walking trail, playground, and veterans memorial. As shown above, this loan was granted in a BOS meeting with a motion made by Supervisor Zowniriw and the vote in favor was unanimous. The citizens of the Township deserve recreational facilities- a park- not just empty fields.Veterans Park is a public facility owned by the citizens of Richland Township.

This is no different than Orloff and Tamburri handing over open space to the Y, a PRIVATE organizatioon. Orloff and Tamburri have connections to the Y--they are former directors.

Orloff has connections to RASA--Hetrick and DeMuro Mercon are his cronies.

Rick, you'd have had better credibility if you would have just stated that:

'RICHLAND TOWNSHIP is contructing Veteran's Park with township tax dollars'

instead of all this cloak-and-dagger crap with RASA making up the fundraising farce that they could pay their portion for VP:$546,000. 9/11/06: RASA gets a loan from the BOS for $370,000. Less than a year later, they get another loan for $270,000. Who is kidding whom here! They won't be able to repay the loan; they're a non-profit for God's sake!

Again, just another earmark for an Orloff special interest group.

To "The Real (non-nutty?) Hummm"; Sour grapes? Bitter tears? Wrathful vengeance? Not chosen for the Preservation Board the Z's wanted to abolish? Contact Mike Z to get the inside skinny on what's happening- he must have a good idea about what he is voting for and what is in the motions he makes. Don't trust the insiders? Take Z's word for it.

Too bad the park is closed to all the citizens of the Township except RASA. Oops! It is an open, publically owned park! The "special interest group" includes all the citizens of Richland Township. Where do You live?

To follow your twisted and inaccurate logic, the local football and little leagues and other organizations that use public facilities are "special interest" groups that are undeserving of benefiting from public facilities.

I guess in an ideal world of your making, the Township would have floated a bond and paid interest to outsiders to fund this project rather than borrow money from taxpayers, paying interest to those same taxpayers, to get a much needed public facility without raising taxes. If the Township raises taxes, it would make your vendetta and endless quest to make the current volunteers and employees and leaders look incompetent and give you a better shot at putting yoursef and your friends in charge.

Of course, you and other opponents of the park preferred to not build the park and then complain that the current volunteers and employees and elected officials are incompetent and should be replaced by you and yours: sick, selfish, and self-absorbed folks whose only interest is personal and do't consider the wishes or the good of most citizens.

No, they leave that to Quakertown Boro residents to pay. Unless it could be called the Orloff Food Panty, it doesn't stand a chance!

I read Q'town was going to build it for the food bank.

They weren't tournaments. They were showcase games. There were about 100 teams that played from the LV to the NP area, on many different fields. This gives college scouts a chance to see the talent and not have to drive far. From what I heard, there were teams from all over the Eastern US.

I think we can say, with confidence, that the QSC, QMFA, and QYBA didn't come before Boro Council stating they could raise x amount of dollars, knowing full well it would never happen...as is the case with RASA.

Again, it would have been an easier pill to swallow if Orloff just came right out and said that Richland Township is building this ballpark for RASA with township funds because they need a place to play. That's it, cut and dried. They didn't have to make up a story that they were going to raise over HALF A MILLION DOLLARS for their share of the park...Ain't happening! They aren't a big enough non-profit to pull this off.

Q: Why all the cloak and dagger crap?

A: Orloff only knows how to lie; he can't handle the truth...even when it wouldn't hurt him!

Softball is something fat overweight men play. The only action is the rush to the keg on the sideline between innings.
