Whats with the picketers at the Ross site. Who cares who is doing the work on the building why should someone have to be in union to assume the work will be better, there is no guarantee. In this day and age its about cost. This is America and everyone has a right to work reguardless of affiliations.Just like they have a right to protest.

I think the boro does a fine job of keeping town looking nice and neat. Remember they are not responsible for private property and the shitholes that some people call home. The parks are kept mowed and clean. They plow snow better than most communities in the area. If your going to bring up the playground, its past its time for replacement. The kind of wood they can use wears out. fact of life. Wood is work, vinyl is final. Use plastic or another material that will hold up... or expect to replace it every few years.
anyway, give the boro employees a break. Give everyone a break for a change. Someday it will be your turn in the barrel and you won't like it a bit.

If they dont want to be in the barrel then they should do their dammm job. Thats what they are getting paid to do..to serve.
If wood is work..then keep up with it. Vinyl might be final but it looks like crap.

As a woman if I can keep up with my home painting done on schedule theres no excuse that a crew of males cant keep up with maintaining playground equipt.

Union contracts raise the wage and benefit scale for all workers. Non-union worksites are in a race to bottom where developers look to hire the cheapest builders that skimp on pay and benefits. In the city, most projects are union-built. Unfortunately in hickville the local population needs to brush up on their labor history and economics to challenge non-union builders.

I would like to add the wood play ground when it was made it was built by the community, not just the borough. That is why when you walk around it you see all the names of the families in town who contributed money and labor. It was different time when it was built its sad that it has become so dilapidated, just like this towns spirit.....
Also Unions protect workers, they are definitely a good thing in an economy that treats workers as disposable.

You're not a Libertarian. If you were, you'd support ANYONE's right to do business. You choose whether or not to go there.

Job creating businesses coming to Quakertown that fill empty storefronts, pay taxes, and don't add burdens to the school system.

Oh the horror.

Job creating businesses? Not a living wage by any means! Who can live on $8/hour? That's all we get are low paying retail jobs. Where's the impetus to draw high paying jobs like Center Valley has done?

I am still hanging off the edge of my seat waiting for Ross to open. I get great deals on bed sheets, pillows, shoes, and whatever else my heart desires. They may not pay their employees a lot but think of all the people that want an easy part time job or teenagers that need a job close to home. Hey it is something. I don't understand why people are complaining, it was an empty lot anyway. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I am pumped to go save money on what you call garbage. Try finding Egyptian cotton sheets for the price Ross sells them them at. They sell tons of stuff for your home that is more uniques than what Walmart or Kohl's sells. They sell a little bit of everything. Now I don't have to waste gas driving to the Lansdales store anymore! YAH!

I see, so then by those standards, there shouldn't be any chain retail stores filling those spaces. We should just have empty store fronts because that's better. We shouldn't have stores that will generate tax revenue, provide goods that the public seems to want, and don't add pressure to the school system.

As far as employment, there are plenty of young people who can and will get those jobs. There are also people who may need extra work or senior citizens who feel they can still contribute. Look at any of the retail places on 309. You will see a broad spectrum of people who obviously need those jobs.

If you don't think a national retail organization should go into that space, please, dazzle us with your profound knowledge of economics and enlighten us as to what should go there.
