Sounds like cosmetic changes to me. What about additional training for the staff. What about new technology to aide in solving crimes. During this depression the use of money from any source is an insult when used for cosmetic purposes. The sale of confiscated equipment should have been donated to the needy in the area. Many people need to be retrained in this economy so they can earn a living. Has law enforcement become a fashion show? A long term savings would have been to invest money in solar energy to reduce the government use of electricity. The money saved over the years could have been of great benefit to the people of the area.

Mary: Im agreeing to disagree, Before I pass judgement , If I see Mr. Vickers I'll ask him, you should do the same.
Mr.Vickers is trying to bring professionalism & uniformity to the department, with a standardized uniform code. After all, Im not going to stop & pull over for a flashing blue light coming from a pick-up truck & the guy has a badge pinned on his tee shirt. Mr. Vickers is making his department recognizable for your safety & his officers. He is not evoking a fashion show.
The city/county governments need to address the issues of workforce development, not the sheriff.
The sheriff cannot bring industry in.
Additional training for officers is needed and may be in the agenda? I dont know, ask the sheriff, there are state guidelines for training.
Help the needy, maybe some monies are allocated for that? have to ask the sheriff.
Green technology should be mandatory on all government buildings.

Are u saying the sheriff staff was not dressed in a manner that was not recognizable? If money was abundant and all other matters addressed then decorating or new uniforms would be fine. But we r in a depression and the leaders and that includer mr vickers need to set the example of fiscal responsibility. And tell me, was the new stationary for the protection of his officers? I think not. He must think he should live like a king while the rest of the world struggles for food and to keep a roof over their head. I am so appauled by this behavior I hope he gets fired. Did we need a new boat or did he want a new shiney toy. And the cars...could u read the logo on them or did he want everything to match. Whats next?

Mary that new boat may save you or your grandkids. Vickers is trying to clean the drugs and problems of the county. The money did not come from your tax dollars. As far as the needy they could go get a job doing something. Why dont you go talk to Roger . He is always there to talk to..

The origin of the money isnt the issue. Stationary and fancy uniforms neither serve or protect. And during this depression it is a sin and should be a crime to waste money. And if the old boat was ship shape, it should have not been replaced. I suggest u check the unemployment both local and nation wide. Also check the ever shrinking want ads. This worship Vickers thing that some have isnt holding water. The money was poorly spent and thats all to be said, period.

You dont have to tell me about unemployment I lost my job when it went over seas. That was the sheffic office money to be spent as Roger seen fit.If you are getting all your information from the newspaper, then you dont know what goes on. It is not put in the paper when some one goes for training, or takes a class . You need to remeber your not up north where the state gives the county lots of money .This is a small county .Roger cant get fired the people of the county voted him in...

Its called a recall. Where voters get a chance to elect someone with aspirations beyond decorating. As for him seeing fit. It is up to the citizens to keep elected official accountable for what they do and dont do in office. He was elected not crowned King.

We all have the right to face our accuser, Mr. Vickers would probably like to talk with you.
Maybe with good reason, there seems to be alot of negative bias towards law enforcement, even down to the uniforms. If you met with him, some negativity, may turn positive? I would also hope you are objective enough, that you dont seem to judge everything by what you think to be right or wrong. I could never forgive myself if we met & you had something against a guy that wears an eyepatch, I couldnt handle it, other than that Im a pretty good person, but that eyepatch..eyepatch..eyepatch

or

You could always run for Sheriff,Judge,County Clerk, whatever.

Well, I am not much on decorating so I doubt Mr Vickers and I could conversate much. But I do plan on speaking to the state police about when I was robbed and the sherrifs office refused to investigate. He wasnt the sherrif then but I suspect he has the same worthless crew. As for running for office, I have far to much integrity and self respect to run for office. I dont care to sell my soul. But be sure to invite Mr Vickers to blog here.

Mary you would need to come to the Marion County Sherif's department and meet each and every Deputy that works there befor you pass judgement and call them worthless. I happen to believe that the MCSD is one of the finest in the state if you dont like the things are here stay where your at or go back to you came from. thank you
