My wife was a child in Keystone Heights in the late 60's-early 70's. She believes there was a murder of a beauty parlor owner and her daughter. Anyone remember it - who was it and was it ever solved? My wife knew the other woman's (surviving) daughter, Kendall, at the time.
Thanks...

The beaty parlor owner was Mrs. Turner. There was another woman working there that was murdered as well. The daughter of Mrs. Turner was named Valerie, she was abducted and (probably raped). Her remains were found several years after this happened. Just our of curiosity what is you wife's name. I was raised in Keystone and knew just about everyone who lived there

I actually work with the surviving daughter and even years later it still affects her. I was just looking up some information around the area when I came across this post.

I was friends with all involved and it was the worse thing to experience. I was working in the front office at Keystone elementary/high school when they came to tell Kendall of what happened. It was heartbreaking...Kendall was the sister of Valerie whom they found dead about 6 months later in a wooded area in Starke by my cousin and a friend. Mrs. Turner was Kendalls mom who was murdered at the beauty shop. There is more to this story than people know and I don't think they got the real murderers. ... This happened in 1971 I believe.

I agree Bob, the real murderers were not ever arrested. As I said in my previous comment, there is more to this story than people know....

It was Valerie Turner 16, her mother, and another woman who worked there.

Thank you all for your replies. I was able to take the info and find that it was Bobbie Turner and Patricia Marr. They and Valerie were apparent victims of the McCrary family crime spree during that time.

Unless you have info to the contrary...

I'm looking for information about a little boy who drowned in a pond in Starke in the early to mid-1960's. It was a small pond on land owned by J.E. Hardy off of Colley Road. The little boy, with braces on his legs, allegedly wandered well down from his home, thru a fence and then to the pond where he drowned. He was recovered after an extensive search by people on foot and horseback. Anyone remember anything?

I am very familiar with the murders of Valerie Turner. Valerie was my girlfriend when she was murdered.I still think about it daily. What a senseless and useless crime to commit to these 3 wonderful people.

Well I am haunted by this because Valerie was my teachers aide for my 2nd grade class. She was not at school that day. My teacher told our class that she went to get her hair fixed for Homecoming which was that night. When I got home from school that day my mom was talking to my brother Robin about the murders and the abduction of Valerie. My brother was crying. I over heard more than I should have because the details still are in my head. I remember that at one time police thought it was a mafia because it was said that the two women were shot in the eyes ears and mouth and that the womens underwear and bras were taken. Later it was said that when Valerie was found her pre-engagement ring was still on her finger and that if it had been a random murder the person would have stolen the ring. That was another reason for believing it was mafia related. All I know is that I remember her last being in our classroom helping us with our schoolwork. I am still sick about this tragedy and it will forever be in my head.

I don't know if this is relavent or not. I'm studing criminology and was raised in Keystone Heights. I had recently remembered what a childhood friend had told me,which led me to researching what I remember being told, thus, finding this site. My friend's family, as well as my family, had also been raised in Keystone. My friend told me that her mother had told her, when she, herself, was younger, that her and her frined was playing in the woods. This would have been in the 60's or 70's. My friend's mother and her friend stumbled across a nude woman, that had been murdered. The woman was found in the very back woods of High Ridge Estates. For whatever reason, my friends mother showed my friend the place she had found the body years prior. This wasn't a made up story, she gave vivid details that a little girl wouldn't know. My friend took me to the place, and even though the crime had taken place decades prior, I remember that the area was very overgrown, and was quite a walk from the road.
It was also in the very back of High Ridge Estates. Please understand that this is strickly my opinion, and I have no evidence to speak of. But, I grew up in High Ridge Estates in the 90's. I knew the roads , the woods, and the ravines very well.

All the roads in High Ridge, were dirt roads. In fact, the place my friend to me to, was traveled rarely, due to the sand being so thick, it would bog cars down, and they would definitly get stuck. Anyone who lived in High Ridge, or any of the dirt roads in Keystone or Melrose, knew that you had to drive a certain way in the thick sand or your car or truck would get stuck.I don't pretend to be a criminal profiler, nor do I claim to have the experience or knowledge an expert can offer.Again this is just my sole opinion, but I find it highly unlikly that this was mafia related. Rape is not a common factor within a mafiacrime. Not to say that it could never happen, but I just think it's unlikely. A mafia hitman isn't going to take the undergarments of his victims for proof. If proof is required from a hit, in most cases it is with a photograpgh or a severed appendage. Sexual sadists are the ones who take "trophies" such as undergarments, or jewelry, or something the victim wore during the assault. I find it unlikely that a predator would drive all the way out in the back of the thick dirt roads of High Ridge Estates, with the possibility of getting caught and stuck in the woods,....without previous knowledge of the area, or a vehicle that he wa confident in driving in loose sand. This case probably doesn't have anything to do with the topic, previously posted. But if anyone knows anything about this particular case, I would be very grateful for any information you have. I know my mother had told me that when she was younger, there was a beauty shop in Mid-Way, the road linking Keystone and Melrose, that a man had come in and open fired with a gun, but he was arrested. The thing that really bothered me about the information my frined had given me about the poor woman found in the woods, is that I got the impression that she had not reported it. I don't know if someone else had or not. I was very young the time,I suppose I dint know what to do. I wish everyone peace, and God Bless you all.

I was abducted in the early 70's, too, and I have no birth certificate. Roger Phipps raised me. He said her name was Reba Turner. I'm somewhere now between the ages 41-44. I'm on Facebook under Kimberley Renée if I'm the missing daughter.

Actually, Valerie's remains were found in the woods off of State Road 16 in Starke. I was taken there by the Sheriff's office, i identified the ring.
One of the murderers, Carl Robert Taylor, is still serving time in Colorado Department of Corrections for murders there.

I Kimberly I came across your message and it kind of captivated me especially since I know some Turner's. I was wandering if you ever found your family or if you were ever abducted?

This is unbelievable!
I was a little boy of about 7 when this happened. My mom and I were driving from Jacksonville to Hawthorne the morning it happened. There was the flood of emergency vehicles all along the road. When we got to the roadblock, the HP asked if we had seen anything suspicious that night.
I remember being terrified for a very long time thinking the same was going to happen to us at home.
Obviously I still think about it if it made me look it up on the 'net 40+ years later.
