I know people who wont shop at Wal-Mart because they dislike Wal-Mart because a local Grocery store went out of business. That is a horrible way to live.

Secondly, Wal-Mart cant determine how much a "Tubesock Company" Charges for their socks. They can only determine how much they (walmart) sells them for. No company would ever sell their socks for less than they make them for.
So you are saying that one can't live without going to Walmart?

YOU ARE SO F---ING WRONG!!! Read this: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/77/walmar...

You play by Walmart's rules or they simply won't carry your product. BTW, I would rather pay MORE for anything than give Walmart a dime. The funny part is that Walmart has everyone brainwashed into thinking they have the lowest prices and like a bunch of DUMB sheep, people follow.

The truth is. Wal-Mart sells so much more than other stores, so they can make more money by selling for less.

You obviously have no idea how Walmart dominates the market. Their shear size allows them to dictate things like this. If Tubesock Company doesn't bow to their demands, they know that Walmart will just go to TubeSocks R Us, and no longer be a customer of Tubesock Company, denying them sales that could possibly be more than all those other customers combined.

And you cant blame wal-mart for companies moving to other countries. Walmart has no control over that.
Wal Mart actually makes more money for said "Tube Sock company than anyone else.....
If you charge less and sell way more, you earn more money, the company you buy from makes more money.
So, you see, you are misinformed..
No, you see, you are UNinformed. What you describe is the basic economic model on which a free market is built. Walmart skews this and has absolutely done exactly as I described. If you doubt me, you should look into their interactions with Vlasic, Hoover, and almost every apparel manufacturer that they have ever dealt with.

What happens with THEIR vendors is that Walmart sells more, and then pushes the vendor to supply more for less. Using your example, Walmart first buys the tubesock for $2. Then they say "We are only going to buy this for $1.75". You move your plant overseas just so you can meet their demands, and then they come back and say "We are only going to buy this for $1.50", and you lay off half your Chinese workforce and make who is left work longer just so you can make that sock for less that $1.50. Sooner or later, you probably have to fold because your margin is so thin that one major negative event is enough to drive you into bankruptcy. Walmart then goes to one of your competitors and says they have an AWESOME opportunity for them if only they could sell them tubesocks for $2.

Then the cycle repeats itself, ad nauseum.

The end result is THEIR vendors sell more, and then make less because Walmart keeps pushing them for lower and lower prices. This is a widely documented.

Too many folks cannot maintain a discussion without getting off on a tangent. The original post stated that people who eat at Cracker Barrel should be ashamed because of the recent dispute over those parking spaces.

I eat at CB sometimes. I am not ashamed. I think a business has a right to protect its own interests. There are many places in town to locate another fast food restaurant.

I think some people are getting confused because the new business in question is a restaurant. I think CB would feel the same way if the new business was a shoe store, a book store, or whatever. It is against the original lease, and inhibits the line of sight for customers coming into town from the north.

Since some of you are protesting and planning to boycott Cracker Barrel, I may eat there twice as much now.

Good...that will speed up you getting heart disease.

You do know that people wouldn't have a problem with CB if they had actually been using those parking spots for the past decade. This makes CB look EXTREMELY bad in this situation. The people I really feel sorry for are the employee's who have been instructed to park over there now or else.

The zaxbys building would not block the view from people coming in from the north. Who would be coming from that way anyways? Benton people can go to calvert city to eat at cb and mayfield can go to Paducah. People do not drive to Murray to eat and if they do they know where they are going anyways. That has got to be the weakest excuse for zaxbys to be built.

Actually, they do. Many folks come from places such as Marshall County, Mayfield/Graves County, Trigg County and Paris/Henry County to Murray to catch a movie, eat, and shop a little. They also come here for sporting events, to meet family and friends, and whatever other reasons you can think of. And while they're here, many of them spend money.

Zaxby's has a right to come here too. I've eaten at one once, and it was pretty good. I hope they find an appropriate location in Murray. However, I think there are too many businesses (such as Subway, The Murray Bank, and even Cracker Barrel) that are located at the front of that shopping center now. But placing blame on Cracker Barrel only because the owner is breaking an agreement with them is silly.

Cracker Barrel has every right to try to block competition through legal means.

People also have a right to boycott Cracker Barrel for said policy.

People also have a right to eat at CB for whatever reason they choose.

What a concept, letting owners and patrons decide things for themselves.

Shameful how others always try to force their choices upon others.
