While in High School I worked at Macy*s. I worked in the Display Department and I printed all the signes for the store. The employee entrance was located in the corner to the left of the Macy*s sing (facing the picture). I really enjoyed working there.

I used to live in adjacent Pelham. I can still remember my first time at the mall, when it was brand new. I don't even think it was completed yet. I believe it was back in the 60's, like 1968.

Does anyone remember when the Mall opened up?
Also when did the movie theather open and when did it close? The second question is a tough one and I doubt I can get an answer to it. I don't believe the movie theather was opened for very long.

Dont remember the exact dates for the movie theater...I remember where it was in the Mall at the top of the escalators near the back entrance and near the parking garage...I even went to see a film once but dont remember which one.

Would get our candy at McCrory's and take the escalator upstairs and watch a movie.I didn't
see to many movies there but it was real convenient
and I never knew why it closed. Do you know when the Mall opened up?

I was 12 years old when they built macys and the mall. I remember ice skating on the outside rink. I also remember the century mall theater. I saw the movie american graffiti there.

This photograph brings me a lot of good memories. I remember going on the skating rink on the lower level.Macys opened in 1967. The mall opened in 1968.I do not remember when the movie theater opened but I think it was not open too long.

I always thought that Macys and the mall were
one unit and they were built at the same time.
I have many happy memories of the "old Mall".
Cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

What's new in New Rochelle? Same old, same old.
The Mall was not any great shakes as I remember. But I try to forget my childhood altogether.
I'm thinking of moving to New England, New Guinea or Newfoundland. Something forever new, get it?

All I remember is that they hung out at the top of the escalator.

I appreciate you posting this picture of the Mall. I lived in New Rochelle from 1989 till 1993 and The Mall was one of my favorite spots as a kid. I still remember going to the food court and how the arcade room was all the way in the back parallel to the restrooms. Me and my friends used to hang out there all the time.....good memories good times..

The first time I walked into The Mall as an 11 year old (Their Grand Opening in 1967),(from the Franklin and Main entrance), I was mesmerized by that "waterfall" or whatever it was. Beads of some kind of liquid flowing down wires spanning from roof to floor. To me, it seemed like the "big time" had hit New Rochelle when The Mall opened.

And now it looks like a border town across the Rio Grande and probably in not too long from now everything that is discussed in here will just be a memory...more than it is now.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you on this. I come back to visit my mother, and I feel I am entering a whole different town.

I remember the skating rink outside of the lower level. Also there was a place inside where you could get hot dogs, hamburgers, and french fries.
