The college website only states that a student died there today. However, students claim that a faculty member's wife killed a student.

Does anyone have reliable information?

It was a faculty member's wife, but from a reliable source, I heard that it was her daughter that she killed.

it was in fact a faculty memeber's wife who killed her daughter, who was a freshman student athlete here. im a student at mville. the girl was strangled and she had a little sister who is ok. the mother also tried to kill herself and is in the hospital because the attempt was unsuccessful. the faculty member was part of campus safety.it happened in faculty housing.

I am a student at Manhattanville. I offer sympathy to the family and friends of the victim. I know that many other students are as concerned as I am with the safety of our campus. We were never informed that there was a murder on the campus. We were able to walk around campus all day. I can see the crime scene from my window. How was the school not shut down? How were students allowed to be walking around uninformed? I personally do not feel safe and have considered leaving campus until the school can give us more information. Telling us that the campus is secure after an incident like this is not very reassuring.

All, I'm sure, offer their sympathies. However, until all are informed of the facts, rumors will persist and fear will preside.

I'm a student at mville too and for those of you asking her name theirs a reason the police didn't release it. Everyone here knows who it was but no one is giving her name because her entire family hasn't been notified yet and they deserve the courtesy of not finding out shes dead from a website. and her dad was not part of capus security. but he does work here but his wife doesn't

Turns out it was a family tragedy. There was arguing on the weekend. On Monday, the student was found dead (strangled) and the mother unconscious. Signs point to a murder-suicide attempt. The father is a maintenance worker at MVille.

Other students were never in any danger.

Very sad.

Domestic Violence or Intimate violence is a tragedy for the whole community. The loss of a student is a HUGE tragedy for everyone. Life and school can not be expected to go on as usual. School should be held until the students and community can mourn the loss of this victim. Though the community is not at risk from a murderer on the loose, the community cannot ignore the victim of Domestic/Intimate Violence. To call it a "family tragedy" is a misnomer.

completely agree i go here, and they seem to be sweeping it under the rug. which i understand they don't want to call negative attention to themselves as a school. It is still not respectful to downplay what happened to this poor girl.

All I can say is that this is VERY !! SAD news too all of us at mville the campus is not the same today. I feel like even the weather is mourning with all of us here. every where you enter there is silence.I give my condolences to the family and may God reward the victim with heavan.
I would also like to say, that all those who are spreading bad rumors should stop this is not something to gossip about expecially if it is all lies. If anything you should be scared of God to speak lies.

Yesterday, the school simply referred to a "death." Today, they issued a statement saying it was a "possible homicide." Obviously, they are limited in the type of information they can disseminate based on police information and protocol.

I teach at another school and employees are sometimes more informed about incidents than students are. Schools need to consider the effect of releasing certain details. It's not a matter of hiding the truth or "sweeping it under the rug."

The school should not be closed. This was a family tragedy that happened to take place on campus and involve a student who grew up there and was well-known. However, the best way to help everyone cope is to continue classes while providing counseling and holding appropriate memorials.

Today, the school issued an email focusing on the victim not the crime. This was a step in the right direction.

I feel it was very disrespectful for you to release her name on this website. The family needs to come to grips with what's going on and try to figure things out in their heads without all of you talking about it and speculating on what happened. i understand that you all care about her but give the family some time.

By now, reports of the incident are all over the web--including international news sites. The reports include the girl's name.

From the looks of it, the father may be the suspect. If there was a history of domestic violence, perhaps this tragedy could have been prevented.

Of course it is not disrespectful by the time I posted that her name was public knowledge on our college website in the morning.!!!!! But other then he name I think people should not come to conclutions like lohud who already wants to blame the mom. Le the police do their work. I attend Mville and have met Marissa in class. I have also met her father whom is a wonderful person. I send my prayers to their family. God be with them. Also if you want to send prayers and wishes you can call the school and ask about a fund for flowers and things to make a donation. God bless he and her family. Marissa will be missed.
